Hey everyone,

So i have dsl with telkom (10mb), and data with WebAfrica (Business Capped).

My router says i sync at 6 megabits, and when i do a speedtest that is confirmed (i get the full 6 megabits).

What is strange is: When i connect to my VPN server i max out my line at 10 megabits with a speedtest. This is not just every now and then, this is always.

When i disconnect from vpn my speedtest shows 6 megabits again.

Why on earth can i get full speed over VPN? but not when i am disconnected from VPN?

I am ruling out Best Effort service, as Web Africa's Bussines Capped account is suppose to give me excellent throughput. My router also ALWAYS sync at 640 / 6144kbps

Some router details

DSP Firmware Version: DMT FwVer: 3.10.0.0_A, HwVer:TeF7_7.0
DMT Status: Up
Operational Mode: ADSL2+
Upstream: 640 kbps
Downstream: 6144 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream): 12.0 db
SNR Margin (Downstream): 8.7 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream): 26.0 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream): 46.0 db

What are you using to speed test? Try an actual download, not a speedtest, and see how things look.

I first noticed this with actual file downloads and uploads. i saw that my DU Meter maxed at 10mbits, tried it a few times with smaller and larger files, and all gave the same result. Then i took a speedtest.

I can no longer do speedtest, but my file downloads still reach 10mbits easily.

That is not possible with the line stats you have shown, there must be something else going on. Can you post some screenshots of downloads and speedtests in question?

My bet is he is ding the speedtest on the remote server and not locally.
