Weird Internet Problem

I have a D-Link DSL-2500U ADSL modem installed. I started having problems a few days ago where it could not connect to my accounts when I enter the details into the modem and also not by dialing it from Windows. When dialing it from Windows it would stop at connecting through the WAN miniport and never went further.

Today I took the modem with me to the office, connected it up and it connected to the accounts no problem (the internet light on the modem came on) with the details entered into the modem, but I still could not open any webpages. I could connect to the same account by dialing it through Windows though and all pages loaded fine.

So I took it back home and still had the original problems, so I phoned Telkom and had them reset my line. After that it behaved exactly as it did at work, i.e. the internet light would come on, but it wouldn't load any pages without dialing it again through Windows first.

I just re-installed Windows, but it was doing this from before that.

What on earth could be the problem?:(

imho the dslam might be ****ed and you should get a tech out to double check the connections in the dslam(s) for both legs if it is still ok and properly connected. not sure how to say it but mine was connected only to a single leg instead of a two which the tech showed me and this made the connection unstable and unusable. well this sound bout correct since you account and modem is fine...

Update: After quite a few frustrating hours (featuring embarrassing levels of stupidity), I finally went into Cmd prompt and typed ipconfig /flushdns. After that it would work for 20 seconds or so and would again go down. Then I set my IP and DNS settings to auto in Windows and voila!

Now I have to nurse my aching head from having banged it on the wall a few times....:o
