Weird phone call

I just got a very suspicious phone call from some chick claiming to work for Microsoft's technical dept and she wanted to warn me about some infection in my Windows.

She wanted me to go sit by my computer and have her talk me through scanning my computer and God knows what. She also said they were phoning everyone with Windows.

Anyone else got this phone call?

I didnt trust her, so I hung up on her.

Scam.

They make you download a virus and then want to charge you thousands to fix it.

Figured as much. It just sounded so absurd!!! I should have recorded the call.

Always an Indian lady, they install a desktop hijacker/fake antivirus, we usually see pensioners getting scammed.
I tend to see 1 or 2 customers come in a month with this, some even paid for the "fix".

It's a well-known scam. They sometimes give your street address, which is from the online white pages.

My wife picked up a call recently and passed it on to me. His script couldn't handle my Windows not having a Start button. He gave up after 35 minutes.
