Hi all,

Today I bought a new PSU. The one I was using got fried when my area had a phase out. So I installed it, made sure everything is in place and try to boot. First time, it showed me the login screen then my pc switched off. I switched it on again and my motherboard made weird sounds. So I checked that everything was fine and tried again. First the pc seems to switch on but it shows nothing on the screen, then it switches off, I switch it on and that weird sound again. . . . .

Can someone please tell me what could be wrong?

Maybe the phase out broke more than just your original power supply?

Sounds likely. UPS is essential for our power grid.
Although check you didn't forget the extra 12v plug to the board.

What is the wierd sound it makes?

I have thought about that, but why did it almost boot up the first time? I have disconnected the HDD and dvd wrighter. Still the same prob.

Chances are you might have blown your motherboard when the PSU was blown. Check whether your CPU fan comes on correctly and if your Motherboard light comes on.
What size is the power supply you added?

The fan works. Motherboard's light is green. Everything seems in place. Is there some way I can test wether my motherboard is broken?

Happened to me with an MSI board once.
Im afraid it was my Mobo that got cooked :(
I hope that is not the case!!!

My PC works again. Thanks everyone for all the replies! I'm not sure what the problem was, but I took out the cpu fan fiddled, placed it back again and my pc booted.

Drake2007 you were realy of help when you said that I should start with cpu troubleshooting, otherwise I might not have fiddled there. . . Lol

once mine did it and the cpu was loose , the other time it did it the mobo was shot .

Cool nice fix, suggest you replace the heatsink compound and monitor the CPU temperature.
