Recently I upgraded my 384k line to 4mb.

It was upgraded in about 30 mins (YaY).

BUT it was syncing at random speeds (3200-3900). So I upgraded my router (DG834) with DGTeams firmware and it syncs at
4092 down
503 up

It syncs at that speed almost 80% of the time but still sometimes syncs between 3200 and 4092 now.

When downloading a file it spiked a lot jumping from 0-400 but this is only local. Anything I dl int spiked 0-150. Playing any game is almost impossible at this rate. The line usually never desyncs or drops to a different speed but when it spikes this much I can't play any game and dls don't even go that fast.

There was a techie here he said there's no problem with the line no noise etc.
So I got another router a netgear DG834GUv5 from telkom. With this router the connection is even worse -_-

Today I downgraded the line to 2mb. There is no difference except that now local dls spike between 0-200 and int, 0-100.

With my DG834 Line stats are as follows
Down Up
Connection Speed 2048 kbps 512 kbps
Line Attenuation 46.0 db 23.5 db
Noise Margin 9.00 db 13.0 db

With the DG834GUv5
Down Up
Connection Speed 2047 kbps 507 kbps
Line Attenuation 51.0 db 25.5 db
Noise Margin 10.80 db 18.0 db

So now I have 2 more options which is to downgrade to 1mb...I don't understand why I would have such a bad connection since I'm about 2.5km away from exchange. Other option is to go back to 384k...since that had no problems except really slow downloads :(

If anyone has a solution to this or who had a similar problem and solved it...let me know

thanks

Well u can be away from the exchange 2.5km but the cable run can be further away more like 3.5km away, that could be an problem for 4 meg line u can try 1mb and see what happens otherwise u must settle with the 512k line...

Almost the same stats as me. I'm only 1.5KM from the exchange and also having problems.

Been thinking of pulling my copper out and telling Telkom it was stolen and they need to redo it.

don't know how good buds u are with telkom teckies in your area but u can ask them to put u on an different pair of cable that u are currently using maybe there are an fault on the wire itself...

Try changing the modulation on the router to G.DMT and increasing the SNR.
