Weirdest ADSL problem ever

Alright so my ADSL has been losing sync for quite some time and purchasing a new modem did not help but two days ago(Thursday) my router kept sync for an entire day! And yesterday due to city power being here I couldn't really see if sync was lost but at night it was fine until about 11pm when I couldn't browse until I restarted the modem.

And I noticed when my line was stable my ping was really high but now when my ping is low my ADSL loses sync:confused:

Any ideas because I am at a loss.
 
Post a screenshot of your line statistics (SNR, Noise Margin and attenuation)

Thats not a very weird problem at all.
Im assuming your SNR is out and that your line cant sustain the speeds it is trying to sync at.
You are probably going to need to get your line speed lowered.
For eg my line can only do 3mb reliably and does pretty much what you described at anything higher.

Here are my stats for ADSL
Upstream 507 kbps
Downstream 2048 kbps
SNR Margin (Upstream) 17.5 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 18.3 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 85.6 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 62.0 db

But I had a 1 meg line before and the same problem still occurred. Can't Telkom upgrade something at the exchange cos I just got a brand new router and well gaming on a 1 meg line is frustrating.
 
Your attenuation is too high.
Log a fault with Telkom. They should be able to fix it.
 
Higher SNR, lower Attenuation is good.

Unless you have a line fault, your attenuation suggests that you are about 4.5km (62/13.81) from your exchange. You'll be lucky if Telkom can even find your exchange it's so far away in terms of ADSL performance!
 
Not much you can do about the line Line Attenuation as its linked to distance normally don't want it Higher than 55 db`s
 
My Attenuation was 62db.
There was a problem with the copper connection on the pole. Telkom repaired it and its now at 24db.
 
Well now when I checked my line stats they changed(around 9pm)

SNR Margin (Upstream) 18.3 db
SNR Margin (Downstream) 16.9 db
Line Attenuation (Upstream) 21.7 db
Line Attenuation (Downstream) 44.0 db

And if I am further away from the exchange won't my speed be bad? On a 1meg line my download speed was 0.86mbps
 
My distance from the exchange is about 1.8km? Should I really get such high attenuation sometimes? This morning my attenuation seems good but it lost sync once so far.
 
Attenuation is an electrical value and unless it changes (which it shouldn't) it won't cause you to lose sync, 44dB downstream is usually around 3km cable distance from your exchange. SNR however is usually the value that fluctuates and causes instability. But generally an SNR over 9dB is considered stable.

So than could it be a line fault?
