A Cape Town man has shot and killed one of two robbers who attacked his parents in their Woodstock home.

The Daily Voice reported that the shot man died on the scene while his accomplice ran away.

Police said the man’s parents came home to find the armed robbers and were threatened by them. A scuffle broke out and their son, who was at home, took out his licensed gun and shot at them.

The young man was reportedly in a state of shock when police arrived on the scene.

Police said the courts would decide whether to prosecute the man.

It shouldn't even be a consideration.... if someone is attacking my family, and I have a gun - there will probably be more than one hole in him.
 
Could it be under certain circumstances?

I mean there is adifference between self defence and when you corner the guy with a gun and he gives himself up, then shooting him. I've known people who have shot housebreakers and they haven't been persecuted.
 
Yeah, standard procedure. Chicken littles getting themselves worked up for nothing. At least the victims weren't murdered for the gun.
 
Unfortunately police must also investigate self defense cases. Afterall there is a small chance that the person claiming self defense is lying.
 
That's why you blow holes in intruder first and pop a couple "warning" shots into something.
 
Don't get all worked up - its standard procedure. A person was killed so there is obviously going to be an investigation, self defense or not.

Exactly, odds are they weren't though. I hope the dead guys accomplice has decided on a career change.
 
Firstly, good on this guy.

Secondly, don't get your panties in a twist until this guy is actually charged.

Honestly, some people will bitch about anything. Why wouldn't the police investigate before clearing this guy? Doesn't it make sense to you?

A Cape Town man allegedly shot dead an armed robber trying to invade his home.

The man claims to have been protecting his mother and father from two armed suspects on Tuesday night.

Police say the other robber is still on the run.

Woodstock police were called to the bloody scene in Melbourne Road just after 9.30pm.

There they found an armed suspect lying dead face down on the pavement.

The man, believed to be between 30 and 35, was lying in a pool of his own blood as forensic police combed the area for evidence.

A shocked young man stood to one side while his father, who was clearly shaken by the ordeal, was puffing away at a cigarette and staring at the body.

Police say the drama unfolded when a man and his wife entering their home were threatened by two unknown men with a firearm.

A struggle broke out and the couple’s son, who was at home at the time, took out his registered firearm and fired two shots in the direction of the suspects.

One of the men was wounded in the neck and managed to run to the pavement where he collapsed and died.

When police searched the corpse, they found a 7.65 pistol loaded with five rounds.

Detectives are now trying to ascertain the man’s identity and whether the firearm is stolen.

But police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk tells the Daily Voice the matter is in the hands of the courts whether to prosecute the man, who says he acted in self-defence.

“A struggle ensued whereby the complainant’s son, who was at home at the time, took out his registered firearm and fired two shots in the direction of the suspects,” Van Wyk says.

“One of the suspects was fatally wounded on the scene.

“At this moment it is an inquest and it is not for us to decide, it is for the court.

“A case of armed robbery has been opened for investigation purposes.”

When the Daily Voice visited the family’s home yesterday, the man’s father stood smoking on the spot where the robber had been shot.

“Here was a murder,” says the man.

“My wife and I spoke and this is something we cannot speak about,” is all he would say about the matter.

Because there have been various cases where guys acting in self defence have been prosecuted.... (I actually know someone)_

How about not getting your panties in a knot when people are tired of the rights of criminals?

Personally - I don't give a **** if the guy is armed or not - if he's in my house illegally, I should have the right to blow him away.

So who exactly do you think should be making legal decisions in these situations (keep in mind that "to prosecute or not to prosecute is a decision that MUST be made in EVERY situation because we are all equal before the law)?... the cop with a high school education or the lawyers in the legal system with year upon year of tertiary expertise in the legal system?

So damn fscking right the courts will decide whether or not to prosecute. They are the most qualified people to make that decision. :mad:

Yes - look at our legal system - a perfect example of justice, you can buy yourself out of anything.

Dude this is a decision being made on whether or not to prosecute. Not an actual court case in which a sentence can be handed down. Who else do you propose make the decisions on these legal matters?... your grandma?

When YOU need legal advice do you not go to a lawyer? Why do you now expect the state to take legal advice on whether or not to prosecute from someone other than a lawyer now?

Come on man.
 
I cannot found more info but I wonder if the guy is in custody?
