Now let our justice system do it's job and determine the circumstances at play here and whether or not what happens constitutes self defence or murder without berating the system and hinting that someone other than legal experts should be making legal decisions.

I will berate the system - we see it abused daily in SA, the criminals walk free.... in fact, isn't SA currently in the process of pardoning a small army of criminals?

You might have faith in our justice system - I don't. So feel free to believe that due course will be properly followed.

xrapidx says he knows someone who was personally prosecuted for self defence. Not sure if home invasion or otherwise. Or of full story.

A women shot a gun in the ceiling to scare away her husband who was strangling her.
She got 20 years and he went off scott free.

Yes - a family friend was around 10 years ago - shot a guy in his house not knowing if he was armed. If I recall correctly he got a suspended sentence. (or something similiar).

Yes - look at our legal system - a perfect example of justice, you can buy yourself out of anything.

What about it? If you haven't noticed, when a politician or higher up person is exposed to be corrupt, most of them are charged. Our courts are separated from the state and have led many persecutions. They commend high respect even if they don't get it from you.

Sad! That's the fear I have with people defending themselves and the criminal "rights" override the victims defensive action. It's all about who the judges are and how much funds you have to pay for a defense.

It is unlawful to use lethal force in any other circumstances. In other words, your property is not worth the life of the person that is stealing it from you!

You basically have to wait to be attacked before you can defend yourself or your property.

I also don't have much faith in the police these days, yes, there are the good few, but more and more are becoming corrupt, involved in crime, abusive, or just plan lazy.
