Well, I never thought I'd be creating a thread like this :D

On Saturday I applied at a Telkom store for ADSL at my new place, and received an SMS today that my line has been activated! That's a turnaround time of 2 business days!

So yeah, well done Telkom. I'm willing to give credit where it's due :)

Thats great
i was 1 of the unlucky ones -

applied for a line transfer in January and only got my line sorted on friday - 7 months of waiting and many calls to telkom!

My physical line is being installed day after tomorrow, after which point I can apply for ADSL. Let's hope mine goes just as quickly as I've been suffering from semi-internetlessness (5GB of capacity per month just doesn't count as internet) for the past few months and my XBox needs updating and Steam games need downloading!

Sometimes, Telkom can surprise you with good service. Just wish it was the Norm...:D

To be honest, I have not had any issues with Telkom either. My whole experience thus far has been great.
1. Applied for a new landline and had it installed in 3 days
2. Applied for an ADSL line and had activated in 2 days
3. Just requested a new line and it is being installed today, that's 2 days

I have to say, I have not experienced any of the issues that most forum members seem to have to. Even the call centre seems awesome too barring once exceptions.

Yep, make that +1. Biggup TELKOM!

Just got back from my house. Line installation didn't go ahead. The techy refused to do what the other people did, which was to run a line up the side of the building from the distribution box and said that he would need to request a complete overhaul of the building's cabling since the existing internal lines have been cut during some renovations. I think we all know what that means (Hint: it's not going to happen). I'm pretty damn disappointed about the whole thing. I'd be happy to hook the line up myself, though I suspect they'd still require a techy to actually activate the thing.

Same here! Well, sort of...

I first applied for their 3 month ADSL promotion on Monday last week, but didn't get any feedback. So, I applied again via the website on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday late-morning I got a call and reference SMS, stating that a request for the order has been placed. Just got a call an hour ago confirming the order, with the promise of an order confirmation SMS (along with installation details) within 48 hours.

Really good service from Telkom so far! :D

Applied on the Wednesday on the web.
Got a call on Friday to confirm my order.
Monday morning they called to give me my order number.
Wednesday they phoned to confirm the techie would be there today.
Just got a call to say that the line is up and working.

This isn't the Telkom I know...

Yep, something definitely seems to have changed over at Telkom. Perhaps it's the competition they're coming under from the mobile operators - I'm not actually sure.

Their call centre is still a joke though. I feel my stomach sinking whenever somebody says that I have to call 10219.

Have you actually checked whether it is before celebrating? Cause I keep getting SMSs telling me I won millions....
Yeah, I got home the same day, connected my router and it synced. The only thing I needed to do was the verification on their website.

The Telkom lines were stolen in our area in April 2010 and I was told they were not replacing them.

Surprise - I received a call on 4 July 2011 to say a technician would be there on 8 July 2011 to re-connect me.

It happened, they arrived and that afternoon I was one happy customer.

A job well done and Telkom has to be praised for this service.

applied on Tuesday, was told it will take about 2 weeks, so still waiting, and this is a line that was ADSL activated before by a previous owner

I also applied on Tuesday for 1mbps line through axxess, and I hope Telkom will activate it before the long weekend. My general opinion of Telkom depends on this, so I hope they don't disappoint, as it's my first dealing with them.

in that case, Axxess's reputation would be at stake, not Telkom's as such
