I emailed Afrihost to enquire why on my capped account I have been experiencing high latencies lately (since uncapped was released by them). This is the response I recieved.

Hi Again.

I have been informed that they are exact same product , there can not be a difference all i can suggest is cancel the 5gig account and then create the new one and see if that fixes the problem , sorry for the inconvenience caused.

please feel free to drop us an e-mail. (This is because in previous emails I told them I stopped using my AH account and was considering replacing it with the unshaped one on offer by another company)

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.

xxx

They actually told me to cancel the account and go try another account with another company to see if it was better.... Not to mention it seems they have increased the contention on capped accounts by sharing the bandwidth pool with the uncapped accounts... :wtf:

Well I dont need to be told twice, Good bye AH. Cancelled my account and my Wifes.

Dude since uncapped came out my latencies have been high on just about everything, i have tried

mweb uncapped
IS 5 gb axxess account
unshaped saix
unshaped IS

None of those changed and the problem is not isp related for me atleast.

Thank you, ill avoid those and try something differnt.

You missed my point dude. The problem is not isp related it is your exchange, i logged a fault with with telkom and my local ping is back to 13ms.

Tell me about this fault you logged. Since Telkom doesn't actually have any checks for ping, and the engineer who they send also doesn't run any ping checks, I'm wondering what they did.

Oh sorry, I didnt inculde the complete email logs. They said they would check if there was a problem with my exchange, I told them to go ahead but I doubted it was the exchange as a prepaid shaped account was achieving better pings...

LOL

Well i phoned telkom and got this stupid idiot who seemed like he had no clue, just check your srn margin and ask them what it should be if the person cannot answer tell them you have to go and phone back, do not speak to a person who is clueless, anyways spoke to this very intelligent guy who knew exactly what a ping is and why i am frustrated at averaging 172ms. The key is not to log a fault with the clueless ones.

I am not saying they fixed it has been about 2 days since i logged the fault and it is back to normal. I hope it was them and not something that is fixed for a couple days :D.

Thanks, guess im willing to try anything. Maybe ill fry the exchange and force a new one to be installed since there are big business near me.

sounds like they wanted you to recreate their account, not create an account with another host- but thats just how I read it

In context with my previous emails, no it does not.
Even so, what on earth would they want me to cancel a debit order for when I am sure they could make the neccesary changes on their side.

Lastly why the hell would I want another month of crappy performance?

I'm also reading "cancel your 5GB and create THE NEW ONE" as "create a new Afrihost account" ...but yea, context and missing previous emails makes all the difference.

Not to be picky, but cancel your 5gb and create A new one is a very clear difference to THE new one.
