I just noticed that Wesbank has taken an amount from my account for my previous car I owned which I had traded in for a new one at the beginning of this month.

Im obviously going to question this, but if for some reason they cant refund me, is my old car still legally mine? Hell, It would be cool to drive 2 cars around for a month (not at the same time obviously)

Perhaps Ill do that long trip to PE to visit the folks in the old car, as not to do too much km's on the new one ;)

Bloody banks. can nobody do their job well anymore?!

Just watch out for the speeding fines they racked up. :p

Was this the first time now after the deal has been done?
Same amount?

What floors me is that the man on the street must always pay interest on money owing to creditors, such as banks, SARS, etc. yet when they deduct money erroneously from your account, they refund it without interest.

WHY????????????????????????????

Yea, first time after the deal. Same amount that was coming off for the old car. New cars premiums only start coming off from next month.

Im glad I didnt get those R4500 rims I was looking at this month ;)

check your facts first as this will get very very expensive if this goes on and you WILL be liable for BOTH cars at R4500pcm each

What you must do is follow this up - call wesbank and be nice and ask them for the refund, also make very sure that you notify the dept of transport the car is no longer yours and who it was traded in to and the dealers trading number.

When you get no help call the dealer and ask for the transaction account number they use with the banks for their 90 day free floor credit as they must have notified the bank. If they have not then you can ask them for the R4500 .00.

If push comes to shove threaten to sue them both and the bank jointly and severally as they are possibly both liable according to the contract the banks sign with the dealers.

Just do not give up you are not only protected by local law, if the bank is tied in anyway to another international bank as ABSA is with Barclays they also have to abide by the laws of the UK. The UK consumer protection law is the best anywhere in the planet. They must refund you if you notified them of the change of ownership (god I hope you did) if you did not still demand the money back and if the dealer has not transfered ownership to dealer stock go take the car back immediately.

ABSA pulled this on me when I sold previous car. I fought them all the way to Hellopeter.com they eventually refunded.

I phoned Wesbank. They put me on hold while they investigated, seems the dealership under settled the car by R22. So the account was still open.

They apologized and said they would refund me ASAP.
