Western Digital External Hard Disk not powering up?

Hi guys,

My 2tb external Western Digital isn't powering up. It has it's own power adapter which powers it.


I don't think there is power going to it as the "on" light isn't blinking.

I don't have a spare adapter to check this, anyone have information on where i can check and buy an adapter for the HHD?

There's probably a break in the power cable. I was having a problem with mine. Had to cut and join, now works fine.
 
If you have a local Pc shop nearby you could take it to them to just test if the drive works or not, so you can confirm it's your power adapter.

This. And you might notice your HDD powering up/light flashing when the broken wires touch. The weakest point is normally where the power cord attaches to the adapter.
 
Ok,just got home and checked for spare ac adapters. Amazingly,the DSTV decoder adapter is the same and it works.

Tried looking for the break in the adapter but couldn't find it. Will head over to our local electronic store to get a new ac adapter.

This goes without saying, but make sure the new adapter you get is exactly the same voltages ect.
 
Last time i had this issue i had a hell of a time getting a hold of a power cord with the right amps and connector so i just ended up buying a new enclosure and transfered the drive to it and chucked the WD one.

You could just focus on the amps then chop the old connector off and solder it on the new psu but then you have a weak spot in the cable right of the bat.
 
Ok, So I managed to get a spare ac adapter of the SO.

The voltage output is the same. 12V 1.5A.

what is the 50/60Hz 0.7A max?

The original adapter had 50/60Hz 0.6A max.

Is this a problem?

These are requirements for input frequency and load capacity. Don't need to worry.

Does it work? You mentioned that DSTV adapter works, what is a problem now?
