Good day good people.

I live in the Walkerville area and my friend who lives on the property acquired himself an Internet Promo 5 Package about 6 months ago with the Huawei E367 modem. Signal is great, 3mbps on some days.

With his modem in my PC I get similar signal. So I decided to take on the same package.

Upon enquiring I was told that the Huawei 367 has been discontinued and was sold the E3131 which has similar specs.

I took the modem home and could only manage EDGE on it...Thought it was a SIM issue and tried my SIM in my friends E367 and it worked with perfect signal.

I thought it had to be the modems so I went online to buy an unlocked E367 but found the same problem. 10 minutes of HSDPA+ at first then got not more than EDGE.

So, question is - Howcome things worked well on my friends E367 but both my E3131 and E367 are near useless?

I've installed, reinstalled and updated the firmware on both but no luck.. Can anyone shed light on the situation?

Try setting the modem to '3G Only'.

Did you test just signal with his modem or actual surfing?

As a matter of interest, what is detailed model number? E3131_blabla. It could be printed on the back cover or inside SIM compartment. Is it HiLink version?

By switching the network to WCDMA only worked smashingly :D.

Thank you very much!

Yeah I'm also here nearby your area and the edge signal is stronger hence the modems always want to default to edge but even 2 bars of 3g gives me atleast 3mbps on 8ta so I also have forced mine onto 3g,been using it for just over a year now with no issues.

You can also boost your signal with an external antennae that connect to the back of your usb modem, you can get from 8ta themselves or uniterm direct.
