On the 30th or 31st of May I phoned Telkom for them to transfer my ADSL line. Due to being in a different area from where I was moving, I was informed the easiest (and cheapest) way to transfer the line would be to cancel the existing one and apply for a new one. So imagine my surprise when on Friday last week (1 June) I got a call telling me to expect installation to be done within 16 days.

Imagine my further surprise when on Tuesday I got a call from a technician on Tuesday (5 June) to come and install my line. Telkom being Telkom wouldn't do anything easily so they did screw up something at the exchange. But that was resolved yesterday. Impressed by the turnaround time.

WOW, you are lucky! But I firmly believe it was they guys working for Telkom that are doing their jobs correcyly and not Telkom in general.

I applied for my ADSL line and got it installed in 8 days. I was HUGELY surprized! And when the day came I wanted to upgrade from 384 to 1024 it was done in 5 mins...really just 5 mins...called Telkom, said I wanted and upgrade, they said it will take up to a week. I say thanks yak yak blah blah, go to my PC, log onto my router and viola 4096kbps :D Was I IMPRESSED!!!

Line application

I had applied for a line for a customer and was told 14 days from when the exchange was suitably equipped to start installing ADSL lines in that area. It just so happened that as I was making the request for the installation at a client, Telkom was busy sorting the exchange out. 3 months later, the line was still not installed.

I drove around the area for about 15 minutes before I spotted a Telkom van. Pulled him over and asked him where he would like to eat lunch in order to have the line at my client installed.

They tech in the van responded that he was NOT allowed to take a bribe, but would make a call for me as he was a satelite tech not an ADSL tech. The next day, my client's line was installed.

Drive around, find those vans, it works.

What amazes me is that Telkom don't seem to have an area plan. A technician could be installing ADSL next door (with you having ordered a line) and come back two weeks later.

LOL :D if bribes don't work maybe threats do? Like asking the man would he like to eat his lunch thru a straw for the next few months :p *kidding*

It actually pisses me off to no end the way they almost expect u to be waiting at home for the techie to arrive... When they say they are sending someone the guy doesnt pitch, and when u least expect it they call u wanting to rock up in 5 minutes!
