Wow this was my toughest month yet. on the 16th my salary was depleted :wtf: danm

Been a tough few months for my family.(my mom, dad, brother and me.)

I can't find a part time job so I can't help which makes me feel like a useless bleh. But next year I will be looking for a full time job. I think it is hard times at the moment, lots of business's are doing bad.

Had to pay for a course i have to do.... and my pay is only R2000 pm hehehe :( seventhso don't worry buddy we will get through it

I heard that Standard Bank & Massmart are/were retrenching. Also property prices heading downward to 2006/7 levels.

And they call this a recovery. You can blame america for this shyte. Things are so bad there. It is starting to look like a great depression there. And china buying americas debt does not help either. Hard times.

Our wages being low isn't America's fault as it is China's. What a ridiculous assertion :wtf:

If you're talking about the recession, it started in America, then the world felt it. It kinda happens when you account for more than a quarter of the world's output.

Exactly.

No it starts when you lend money at sub prime rates even when trailer Joe cannot repay it! Lets not even get into the Fed printing money.

Money these days actually means jack schit. If we all had to go withdraw our bank accounts tomorrow strangely enough there would not be enough money to do it. Money is false & holds no real value, PERIOD!

Before you hit me with all this neo-psudeoeconomics inspired by Zeitgeist and internet conspiracy theories in general, yes, America's recession started largely due to debt.
The difference is that you would solely blame this on a country because that seems viable in the short term, but look at it from a broad perspective ranging back history:

The country emerged from WW2 with 40% of the world's output and living conditions and standards that were dream-like, beyond the scope of war torn and debt ridden Europe, undeveloped Africa and Asia.
Long story short, Americans have very high salaries, this induced a lot of outsourcing for companies to stay competitive against Asia, mostly Japan during the 70's to the 80's and now China. You can't compete with Asia as their costs are lower, whether its efficiency or sheer working class populations that bring down average wages 1/10th of American's.

America can no longer manufacture, it's not viable. They are now a consumer based economy, the heart of the world, pumping money in and around the world.
All American's CAN DO is spend (it's integral to us, China and the rest of the world they do too), that's how their economy survives, albeit this has grown in credit, bad credit.

You come up with a batter alternative than money and receive your Nobel peace prize..

Anyway, so off topic. My initial post was a response to an inane one asserting someone in South Africa has a low salary because of America's "shyte".

True, but you cannot borrow and spend for all time. That is what America has been doing. It has to end and America needs to start actually producing and making stuff again.

You mentioned they have a quarter of the world's output, I don't know if that holds water today or if what you meant was they spend a quarter of the worlds spending, somehow I don't think America produces that much, could be wrong though.

Whilst Zeigtgest guys do have it very wrong with regards to their outlook, THe Austrian economics have been getting it very right time and time again. Sound money, less government, more free markets and they seem to start prophecising (the next recession) much earlier and more consistantly than the rest of the economic profession. Since the 1920's the austrians seem to be able to call each and every recession and they are always ignored as to what is gonna cause it and how to end a recession quickly and we keep having the same things happen over and over again.

I still say down with the fractional reserve/fiat money process in favour of hard money or 100% reserve and competing currencies. It will also make it harder for the state to grow in size and power giving us individuals more freedom and choice.

Is it true that Americas biggest export is entertainment and weapons?

Appels, why don't you leave your job? R2000 doesn't even cover rent.

Everyone thinks he's an economist these days. Can't you just say ye sorry dude it's tough you have my sympathies ..

Lets un-derail the thread.

Tough month my side but I can only be too greatful I'm still getting a salary. Just heard Thursday another IT comapny go under. Very sad as I have a friend working for them.

I have a few nephews and nieces who have just started working (less than a year)... they were complaining about their jobs and salaries and leave, etc.

I stopped them and explained to them that they are bloody lucky to still have jobs and that they should be grateful, instead of bitching all the time. They have these illusions that they can immediately start buying cars and houses and luxury items - right now. That I also rubbished... we all had to tough it out for the first few years of our careers and that what we have now, we did not obtain overnight.

Hehe i am doing my article years at attorneys firm. im lucky i live with my parents so i dont have to pay rent or for food but i still need to get to work, make calls and study loan and bla bla bla.... and i cant expect my parents to pay for me. I cant say to much about the economy hehehe

It's a case of struggle through the next year or two and then start reaping the rewards.

And don't forget to reward your folks for their contribution!
