What and when is IS shaping ?

We have IS Business Uncapped ADSL at the office.
And it is not very impressive - Our Managed Service Provider, was telling me in a meeting the other day, they they pretty much proved that Telkom has implemented another level of contention at the DSLAM's themselves, where they will plug a competing ISP's Business customers onto bandwidth starved Node / Card.

He had 2 Bus ADSL lines coming from the same exchange 1 SAIX and the other IS, he claims the IS line was useless, so swapped routers, and what do you know SAIX was p0mped... straight away.

Both lines "checked out fine"

wouldn't surprise me at all...

...preparations for 2010 ? ;)

I'm on saix, and I have noticed that they've also implemented the port shaping. I can get full speeds on http, but otherwise, I get about half my speeds using any other programs (bittorrent, irc, etc.).

Honestly, I don't know why they've started this shaping. The vast majority of us only have 3 gigs to play with each month. What sort of damage can we do with that?
