Hi everybody, I thought I'd start a new thread discussing acceptable torrent speeds. I think most of us accept that p2p is, and needs to be heavily shaped (especially for the various new uncapped offerings), but I wanted to start a discussion around what people think an acceptable speed experience is for the various different line offerings.
I recently signed up for an M Web uncapped a/c on my 4Meg line, and the download speeds for HTML & ftp are pretty stable, maxing out at around 450Kb/s (they do dip, but rarely below 350Kb/s). When it comes to torrents however, speeds max out at around 100Kb/s during office hours and creep up to around 150Kb/s off peak. I was wondering if this is as good as it can get, or am i right to moan??

Looking forward to all responses :D

I signed up with axxess uncapped at the beginning of april and hate the download speeds, very very slow - I've come to 100 kb a few times but then it always goes back down to around 50 kb/s and stays there, i have a 4 meg line, torrent speed before with WA capped was not bad at all. I've not been downloading 24/7 and also using a download manager the few times i have, the http downloads with WA capped were around 250 - 350 but the best i can get here is around 60/70 kb, spiking up to 100 and then going back down - very very disappointed. Not even close to utilising what my line can do and i've been looking at it peak and off-peak hours -> not good. trying another isp next month

I'm actually pretty glad I went with M Web, rather than one of the others. (I gave it quite a bit of thought, eventually decided that their infrastructure, support etc. was worth paying a bit more for. Also that they could probably ramp up their capacity quicker than the others if needed). One question though, not sure if you know (or anyone). What's with the yo-yo'ing speeds. why can't it settle at a max speed and stay there? Is it because peers are stopping their uploads or what? It drives me crazy watching it go up and down a million times over the download. Any ideas? or is this normal for torrents?
thx
