I have an Easy Account right now. I'm coming up to need to renew some stuff with FNB and they're trying really hard to get me to upgrade my account. When I look on the website about the differences however, every account type has the same features being touted as amazing and unique (Bank Your Change, Savings Pocket, using the FNB App, etc). The only differences being access to credit and of course the monthly cost of the account.

Is it worth the upgrade in the end? I pay ~R40 a month right now and these accounts all look the same but more pricey.

Also transaction costs.

The higher accounts include more free transactions.

But if you aren’t doing those and genuinely pay only R40 then probably safer there.

FNB pays me about R800-R900 a month to bank with them.

If I was on the Easy account I would be paying them.

Main draw card is eBucks yes.

Other (supposed) features:
  • Better support (premier team, private banker, whatever). Whether or not this works in practice is debatable but it's advertised at least.
  • Travel lounge visits, more and better ones with more expensive accounts.
  • Point-to-point (basically same function as Uber but you book it in advance) on the private clients accounts I think.
  • Travel insurance when you book plane tickets using the credit card. Can be handy for getting visas if your medical aid doesn't cover this.
That's what I can think of right now. Whether or not those are beneficial for you is up to you.

I upgraded to the Premier Account earlier this year and I am considering downgrading. I used to get around R600 to R800 of ebucks but now I don't even notice the value of my ebucks.

I pay around R200 for both the cheque and credit accounts.

I say stick to where you are if you don't think of ebucks as something you would need.

The benefits you metion here are private client benefits. This is the 750k year account.think you likely looking at the Premier account

Sounds like you are doing it wrong.

Or upgraded without doing the research to spot the requirements, simply expecting more ebucks to flow in automatically.

Maybe you upgraded at the rule change and you old account will do as poorly.

Couldn't agree more with this. If you not willing to put in a bit of effort you will get no benefit. You hit t5 just filling up you petrol will earn you 500 plus a month.

Actually, I did a bit of research and I thought I would get a better rate on ebucks upon upgrading. I do use my credit card quite a bit at the petrol station, online, checkers, hifi Corp, etc.

I feel I am not getting anything in return.

Are you Reward Level 5?

And what level were you before?

Because if you did it right you shouldn’t be earning less in eBucks, and if you were really getting 8,000 eB on a lower account you much have been spending enough or had a high enough level.

You should get an easy R1,000 in eBucks on Premier.

Once again agree with this. Once you understand how it works its easy to count it every single month. Remember only fuel at engen gets yoh ebucks amongst things

I guess earlier when you didn’t agree it was a typo. :)
