Been completing a reinstall of my notebook and my only headacke has been rebuilding Outlook 07.
Acronis email backup/restore for some reason never did what it was supposed to.
I had also done an "export" of mail + contacts from outlook but that was another nightmare re (csv) and fields.

Seems Microsoft just don't learn...I have Mozilla FF + Thunderbird and to get those back to identical was a breeze using Mozbackup...Email,addressBook,favourites... bang... done.

I now had to get outlook rebuilt by 1st getting thunderbird back to normal then getting that to Windows Mail then getting that to Outlook.

Anyone have a nice little program they use for Outlook backup/restore cos i don't trust Acronis no more??.

Offtopic here but instead of reinstalling my Kaspersky i've installed the Eset smart security and i think i've done myself a favour re shutdown/restart times.

Don't you have everything stored in your outlook PST file?

it is a snap just backing up that file (and don't forget to backup your archive PST file as well).

not too difficult. :)

or are you talking about Outlook express?

Ok in export if i highlight "personal folder" and check "include all subfolders" should that in theory take everything with the export? inbox/outbox/sent items + contacts etc?

are you using Microsoft Outlook (Part of MS Office) or Outlook Express (that comes with Windows)?

If you are using MS Outlook why don't you just copy the entire PST file. Then you don't have to worry about exporting and stuff. Everything you need is already in there.

You can find the PST file in one of two places...

c:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

or...

c:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\

Look for the biggest PST file in those two folders.... that is probably all of your e-mail and contacts in there. (Check the last date accessed) Note: You won't be able to access the file if you have Outlook open.. close outlook first before you back it up and move it to the new computer.

When you have moved it to the new computer, Open Outlook and choose File/ Open/ PST Data File... and find your PST file (You can put it anywhere... I keep mine in my Documents Folder).. then when it is open... right click on it and click the box that says "deliver new mail to this location" (might be different for newer versions of Office).

Yes its Outlook 07 not OE.
OK, for next time that way sounds like it's pretty fool proof, just copy and paste that file somewhere for backup.

While i'm asking stupid questions is there any way to separate "Contacts"
as "email contacts" as being differant to "Phone contacts" for Syncing with a smart ph.
Alot of my email contacts i don't really need or want in my phone.
Anyone?
