I want to get me a small laptop HDD, with the external casing, to backup some of my data, like MyPictures, MyMusic, and so on. I need software, which I can use, to backup just certain folders on my pc, like like the ones mentioned. But after the first backup, I want that software to syncronize that folders on the pc and on the external HDD once a week, or once a month. I dont like it to backup to dvd or cd, cause then you backup certain things over and over. Both the pc and the external HDD won't pop together, so I think I'll be safe enough. Any Suggestions?

You can use the windows briefcase facility for this functionality.
CAUTION: I have only used it a teensy weensy little bit.

Step 1 : On the backup drive, create a new briefcase.

In file explorer, on the right hand side[files side], right click on open space and choose new.
Choose briefcase.
Create a briefcase and call it whatever you want to call it, say ... backup1.

Step 2 : Copy the directories you want to backup into the briefcase.

The briefcase works like a folder. Just copy / drag the stuff you want backed up into there.

Step 3 : Update the briefcase.

Right click on it [the briefcase] and choose update all.

It will only update things that are not up to date.

So ..
To update your "backup", plug in the drive, right click on the briefcase on the drive and choose update all.

To get stuff out of the "backup", plug in the drive, open the briefcase by treating it like a folder. Select the files you want and copy and paste them where you want to.
