After reading another thread, I though of our bed. Me and my wife have this foam matress for 15 years now, and we thought it's still going strong. But we always wake up tired. We're too young still for pains, but always so tired.

Do maybe it's time. I always liked the foam matresses (cloud nine), but where do one start, with so many choices. Spring or foam, different brands, etc.

Dude, consider spending at least 8 grand on a mattress.

You could go all the way up to 24 grand for a mattress but that's not really necessary right now.

Considering you spend a large percentage of your life in your bed it makes sence to get the best you can. We have a Simmons, it is so comfortable and was well worth the price tag.

Jis I just dont know what to get. My parents get n new one every few years, always a spring issue. What do you guys have, spring or foam, any issues with springs? And how long does your matrass last?

I'm keen to try a Casper.com. But they only deliver in America. Wish some local would bring them in.

"100 night trial,
Free Return Pickup

Sleep on it, lounge on it, dream on it — if you don’t love it, we’ll pick it up and give you a full refund. No springs attached."

Went through the whole supposedly magical pocket coil thing a few years ago with the memory foam to and all that.

First night was horrible for being too soft and almost being unable to stay on the bed. Complained and they said give it a week and you'll get used to it.

I fail to remember the brand now but it was one of the big ones and was 8500 or so.

Ended up with a "repair" done under warranty. Still wasn't right and a huge fight ensued to get my money back.

Few weeks later I bought the hardest top of the line Cloud9 with latex top.

Short of the first night being an adjustment I could be happier.

Recall having to pay in a grand or so.

Won't ever try that experiment again. Foam or get the **** out.

Go to mattress shop.
Test them all.
Buy the one that feels right.
???
Profit.

Some people say that you will get used to a mattress after a week, even if it does not feel perfect in the beginning. Its bull IMO. If you get the right mattress you will like it instantly, unfortunately its most likely going to be expensive. But on the other hand, a good night's sleep is worth more than a fancy car.

One of my friends also asked be what mattress to buy and I gave him the same answer. Funny thing is he ended up with the same model I have.

I agree with the part about a week.

Thing is the mattress I tried...and I mean tried pillow and all for an extended lie down, was perfect on the day.

But after the whole swop out process went to lie down on the exact same model again and it just wasn't right.

They're all made locally except for tempur. In fact there's probably 4 factories in the country that make all 20 local available brands.

Get one that's 1) comfortable, 2) rated for the weight of everyone that will be using it.

Warranty and guarantee are worth next to nil for local mattress.

My primary is a serta perfect night pocket coil with memory foam (soft), and if I'm feeling for something more firm my old Simmons beautyrest world class superior firm is in the spare room. The Simmons is like the day I got it, even after 7years (I am 66% of the max supported weight though).

Cloud 9, nuff said.

Yes, if you're telling someone to avoid a mattress. We tested Sealy, King Koil, Serta and Forty Winks when we had to replace our Cloud 9 recently (all pocket springs). Bang for buck and comfort wise the Forty Winks stood head and shoulders above the competition. I can't explain how much better it is than our old Cloud 9 (that we had for 5 years).

Some people like firm beds and others like softer slightly spongy beds.

You should try everything. 6k is entry level. As you move towards 10k mark the warranties get longer.

I've had an expensive Serta and a Cloud 9. The Cloud 9 suits me better but only since I've put on weight. I never found it comfortable weighing less than 90kg, I found it just too hard. My Serta is now starting to sag in the middle after 5 years of use, so have gone back to the Cloud 9.

FYI: Some say that beds are only meant to last 10 years give or take.
The Cloud 9 is also a bit hard. I have one and i tend to get numbness in my hands. Its also cold in winter.
I also have a very soft one that gives back pains (old Forty Winks).
I have a new Forty Winks which is in between and it does help (dont buy Forty Winks though, does not last long and gets soft over time).
