What broadband to get next?

I have been using Vodacom 3G for around 3 years now. I was on contract but after it expired I decided to go pre-paid because of the issues I had (crap network disconnecting every few minutes and such) I've been trying to be patient with it for the last year now as well but it only gets worse.

Now I've decided to get something else. I will not give Vodacom another cent of my money for the **** service. Don't think I want to go ADSL route so any input from you guys will be appreciated. I will be using the service for gaming as well and it must be very stable / reliable and not cost me an arm and leg every month.

What do you recommend?

Ps. I do NOT need to be mobile. This will be at my home every day...
 
I am very happy with my Cybersmart One Price ADSL. The overseas latency is not the best, but local should be fine.

The price is really good as you get 1GB of bandwidth and your 384k line rental for R169 per month.
 
What games?

FPS etc will require cable, WoW etc you could get away with IS and satellite, which is cheaper.

I had a look at Axxess... the Semi Shaped service looks perfect for what I need. I will be playing both, FPS (BF2) and RPG (Guild Wars) online.

He is refering to renting the phone line and renting the adsl line. 2 seperate costs. The ADSL line is R413 / month and the phone line is R124.20 / month.

If you've already got a phone line, then you're already paying the phone line rental so it will just be the addition of the adsl rental.

Once you've got those 2 things sorted, you just have to pay for your bandwidth each month from your ISP of choice (im with axxess and have never had any serious problems, although I will admit they dont seem very good at blocking spam because just about everything seems to get through)
 
Ah, yeah... I know about that. I've ran into a problem though. When I applied for the line Telkom told me I owe R100 on my account. I haven't had an account for about 6/7 years which I KNOW I paid in full before canceling the line when I moved to a new house. My cellphone number has been the same for 10 years and no one bothered to notify my of this. So I went to pay the R100 on Wednesday and now these thieves want me to give them a R700 deposit for the activation of the line. Its absurd.
 
whats the deposit for? isn't that for an adsl contract?
 
No, because of the R100 i didn't pay but was never notified over. I sent an e-mail and I'm waiting for a reply. If they give me **** I will take my business elsewhere!
