Recently I bought 2 x 1Gb Corsair DDR2 800 modules from a dealer who uses Rectron as a supplier. After about a week I realized that something is wrong with my PC so I ran some tests and found out that the memory was broken.

I returned the ram to a dealer who then returned the ram to Rectron. Rectron then tested the memory and confirmed that it is in fact broken, but now they refuse to replace them with the same brand of memory. At first they said they will replace it and they have stock, but as more time goes by we realize that they have absolutely no idea what is going on in their stock system whatsoever. They keep on stalling; then it’s this, then it’s that and now finally after they tracked down the "stock" they realize that someone cannot count and that in fact there is no stock. The shelf is empty.

They want me to take standard transcend ram instead because they have no idea when they will get stock again. Naturally I refuse because Corsair ram is more expensive than Transcend that they want to replace it with.

What I want to know is this the kind of service that we can be expecting from one of the more "reputable" dealers of South Africa? Surely there must be systems in place that forces them to be able to replace broken stuff that they sell. Otherwise what is the point of a warranty after all? I am coming up to the 2 week marker here with no end in sight.

get a refund...
they'll issue you with a credit note...

Not sure if they'll give you cash though...

I did that with a monitor I didn't want... and bought a monitor from axiz instead... used the credit rectron gave me to buy other stuff for other ppl to make profit..:D

LOL reputable LOL

Firstly they overcharge on a LOT on most items, I refuse to have them as a supplier. No other supplier has given me so many problems so I have left them behind years ago. They have also developed a thing about really small orders and not ordering frequently enough.

Sure, they have some brand you cant get anywhere else, but I'd rather do without...

They tried the same thing with me. They wanted to give me R1k for a Leadtek Geforce 6600GT when they sold a OEM model for R1.2k, their excuse is that was the current market price, which I obviously contested, they also couldn't prove to me that the market price was R1k. I refused and said I'll speak to a legal representative, and take them to small claims court, about 10min later the guy called me and said they could give me a brand spanking new Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT with the silent pipe technology and all that.

Did the same with another dealer and got a credit note 2 days later (after 2 months of nothing). Small claims court seems to do the trick for me each time :) Legally speaking THEY MUST honor the warranty.

So can one only buy Value Select Corsair RAM? NO! You get expensive TwinX too...

Also, what does a credit note help him? He wont most likely be buying anything else from Rectron, he is not a dealer...

is this twin x? because if its not i dont see the problem

where does the above statement say twin x?

im just figuring no many ppl have 2.5k for twin x but maybe im wrong

Well you know what ASS-U-ME stands for, cause he never mentioned the RAM. You just assumed, thats all Im pointing out...

As someone mentioned above, threatan to take them to the small claims court.

super you assuming he has twin x

im assuming he has value select

come on tell us what ram it is i wanna be right again :)

Rectron were in the news not too long ago selling a 2nd hand mother board. (It even had second hand dust on it).

Wack them good. Make a stink!

It even had second hand dust on it

Second hand dust as apposed to new dust ;)

I agree, rectron's returns policy sucks big time. Wait if you have to but get the same/better ram.

i'd assume it's twin x, since the latest rectron price list (or at least the PE one) doesn't have any Value Select DDR2-800 and they never had any before. The only DDR2-800 from corsair is XMS...

EDIT:
hehe sorry man, its TwinX.
there ya go, it's TwinX

/performs a teabag on himself for getting pwned again grrrrrrrrrr

damn u pompom lol

my bad then dont take the ram they rippin you big time

about the second hand boards, they have a guy that fixes the faulty ones

so someone brings in a faulty lets say they get lucky and get a new one rectron take that faulty board fix it and put into the replacement stock and they still give the same warrenty, so its not the end of the world but still dodgy
