Cocaine + strippers.... its the only way to go.

LOL

The best thing to do is put it in a call account... you will get some interest from that money. If all your debt is cleared first (credit card, personal loans etc) then this is the best thing to do.

Withdraw only what you need every month and try and keep your expenses to a minimum.

If you are debt free, you can live with very little monthly expenses.

I did 10 years ago - in a similar situation - get by with less than R1000 pm. :-)

Wasn't nice, but it could be done. No drinks, no cokes, no take-aways, no movies, only 100g meat per day (plus an egg) etc. Learnt to cook very cost efficiently those days :)

Did odd jobs to get cash rolling while hunting for a decent opportunity.

just relax and try not to be desperate for money. it's when people are desperate to make money that they are scammed very easily...

think of something and remember not to be greedy, because you will loose it all;)

If you paying rent move back to your parents place till things get back on track, If you have a mortgage do the same and put your house on rent, wat you want to do is minimise your expenses cause you'll just be spending without earning.

If you keep up with your current lifestyle without recieving income then that R50k will be gone and you'll be in debt and can end up losing everything(severe case)

I read an article a while back with very good advice. It says that some people in the USA who are retrenched and don't have jobs because of the recession do volunteer work in order to get busy. They wake up early in the morning, look for jobs online and then go out to that particular volunteer job, because it if you sit around all day and do nothing you'll end up being very lazy, and companies might be impressed if you tell them that you've been busy doing something (volunteer), you are in the automobile industry, so you must do something that is related to your line of work. Also try and keep your expenses to absolute minimum, lower your standard of living.

Sorry to hear/read about your impending retrenchment, but the recession will be over soon.

All the best.

Somehow, when you are faced with a small budget, you realise that very often, you CAN get by with the minimum. And sometimes it can be fun to see where you can save and cut corners spending wise.

I am of course talking in general and not referring to people who really cannot even put bread on their kids' table or cannot afford urgent medical attention.

Also, I think that forced unemployed has a severe effect on one's dignity and self-confidence.

Everyone needs a purpose in life - you need to get up in the morning because you have something to do and your work somehow touches the lives of others ....
