Guys..

I tested Mactheripper and Handbrake this weekend and it works great for getting data off the DVD's. But I am looking for software that can put avi and movies back on the DVD's. I know there is Toast but you have to buy it. Any other apps that will work that is maybe free. Otherwise I will have to save and go out and buy Toast 7.

Cheers guys

Popcorn is good for compressing DVD's but for authoring them you might want something like ffmpegx to create the correct files first.

Or perhaps you could push them through iMovie?

I am trying to copy avi files to a DVD... I dont want to compress or anything like that. Just rip from a DVD and then copy it back on a blank DVD. I think you might be able to do this with the built in software but I cannot find it... well yet.

Mac noob

Ok - so you've got your avi or folder from maktheripper sitting on your desktop and you want to burn it to a blank dvd or cd?

How about File >> New Burn Folder from the Finder? Then you name the burn folder, open it up, drop in the video_ts folder and click on "Burn"

Alternatively you can slip in your blank - it will ask you want you want to do with it, so you choose "Open Finder" for the Action. Then you drag everything you want into that (for a playable dvd that would be just the video_ts folder) and ejecting it should give you the burn dialogue.

There are other ways such as using the disk utility too.

Are they actually supporting dual layer DVDs yet?
According to a quick search on their site the superdrive has DVD+R DL support - has done for a while from the look of it.

It may say that, but I don't think the software is write-capable. Maybe some new 3rd party stuff but not Apple.

From a non-MAC user, just how many of the apps listed in this thread are installed/installable when buying the MAC, and how many of them have to be bought and how much are the typical apps for the MAC nowadays.

Just interested. Always had some strange respect for anything MAC... , but never had the opportunity to play with one yet :)
