Cambelt will cost you +-12k for the 2.5 V6.

Alfa and fiat are notoriously unreliable and expensive to maintain!

Maintain a car and it won't give crap. It's the same with an Alfa but you won't get away with not servicing it like someone I know managed with a Toyota...
Servicing is on par with German rivals

Opel Corsa (not the lite bubble shape) for around R40k I have seen them with around 120k km and very nice condition, slightly more sophisticated looking car than budget entry level cars, generally very reliable and cheap to service/maintain. The power plants are very common and virtually any mechanic will know how to work on them, lots of good oem/pirate parts avail.
