What Car for 35k or under

Say you have only 35 000 to spend on a car.
The conditions is realworld, ie, affordable to service, safe, rather modern, light on fuel, and a good, exiting option as a daily runner.

Cars are few, but I have these candidates - if it's not on the list, you may add them.

As much as I don't like the shape of the 323 its a much better buy in terms of reliability that the soho which looks nicer but is a piece of crap.Always giving problems.

Those are your best two options for a basic run around car thats not fancy/comfortable/luxurious per se but reliable and will easily get you to most places even the odd longer trip.

maybe better to buy a tazz,
 
Oh forgot the corsa is also a decent option,I would have recommended a polo but they tend to be more pricey unless you get the old ones which weren't so reliable.
 
Toyota Tazz all the way! Sold mine with almost 200 000km on it. Never had any problems with engine or gearbox. Biggest mistake I ever made was selling it.

Aah yes how did I forget about the ever green and faithful city golf definitely an option as long as you don't have big frame or are 1.8m tall.
 
atos/picanto ,you don't want to sit without AC in the summer. My tazz was an oven in the summer :P

my picanto dosent have AC, dont think they all came with one standard,
just the striker ones I think came with one, but the cheaper ones dont have

the tazz by far is the best if you know you'll be driving on a lot of freeways, but the picanto is good for heavy traffic
as its Fuel injected
 
The tazz is the best, and service is dirt cheap.
It cost me ~R400.00 for the parts from Midas.

tazz is the best car here, built like a tank, and super reliable

only issue I have with it is the fuel consumption sitting in traffic, it DRINKS fuel!
picanto is better in that regard;
 
My little brother got a Tata Indica for R20 000. I must say I am impressed every time I see it. It's prob not the safest car out there but has power steering, aircon, sound etc.
 
Alfa is awesome :) I have a 156 V6 Wagon. But your budget is low to find a good one and I'm assuming that due to the low budget, the maintenance costs will be too high for you unfortunately :(

Just out of curiosity, what is the service costs on these?
 
Stay away from that Alfa.

I like the Ford Ka, it's reliable and cheap to service and if you get the Trend model has ABS, airbag, air con, sound system...
 
def not the alfa hahahaha.

you can def pick up a good opel corsa lite or a tazz. im sure the tazz will be more budget friendly with running costs..
