What car for surfing?

(Not really a car thread. More a leisure thread.)

What cars work well for schlepping surfboards around? I'll probably be buying a new car soon. My current is an old Jeep and is a pain to get boards on and off the roof.

I'm thinking station-wagon or similar as a replacement but thought you good people may have better ideas.

What sort of budget are you looking at?

not sure of budget... R250k to R350k probably ... double cabs and SUV require you to climb on top to strap the boards down. Not easy when your arms are dead from surfing.

You probably meant an old school VW Kombi, one of those and you have a proper historical surfer's car.

A Cadillac Hearse Just throw the boards in the back and be done with them. *bonus* feature- useful to cart what's left of you off should a shark get the munchies.

You could always get a clever rack that doesn't require you to climb onto to strap the board down....

I don't think cars surf very well.. If you must, go for the old Toyota Hilux, as proven on Top Gear to be able to withstand seawater.

Either between the front two seats through to the back seat or, where every decent girlfriend should travel, on the front seat next to you with the seat leaning back.

Ja. Ideal. Thinking of a current era Kombi actually. There was a refurbed 60's one for sale in CPT recently. Complete with mini-fridge and bed in the back. I think it was about R70k

Longboards. My 9ft 'short' one fits into my Jeep with about 2cm's to spare.
