As the thread title says.
What I'm looking for:
-Safety top priority, NCAP of 4 or 5.
-*In Borat voice* I want car with vajine magnet . Basically not an ugly looking car, but I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Price range:
Well, more details on my price range are still to come. I can say that I can put in a 18-28K deposit and more from the current car which will be sold. I'll probably be looking at 2.8K or less for instalments.

So what car can anyone suggest?

I've been looking at the Mazda 3, only thing is that its +- 18K more for the model with side airbags.

My Math will be failing miserably here, but I'm guessing:

60 months @ 2.8k = R168k
10% interest pa x 5 years = R56k
Base loan = R168k - R56k = R112k
Deposit = R28k
Final Amount = R 112k + R28k = R140k excluding trade-in value of your current car. So as an example, if your car trades in for R60k, you can start looking for cars in the R200k bracket.

At least now the forumites can start lobbing model names and features for that price tag.

I doubt I'm terribly accurate, but work it from there... Feel free to copy my post and ammend values as it applies to you.

Mazda 3 or the Feista would be a good choice.

No he didn't say that.
;)
I'd say something in the region of R150k-R180k will probably set you back R2 800k/month.
How about a 2/3 year old 320i.
You not going to attract kitty with a Mazda. You have my word on that.

Kia Cerato goes for about R200k ... bloody good bang for your buck, and it's not exactly fugly either.

EDIT: Now that Fazda's here, you can finally get proper figures instead of my untrained thumbsucks. :o

Buy a secondhand MPS 3 or 6 and a HUGE rear-view mirror because that's where everyone else on the road will be in! :D

Fiesta - I'm not a fan of hatchbacks but I'll keep Fiesta in mind. Oh wait I see there is a sedan version, but it looks odd.
Mini Cooper - No.
320i - Would not mind but the cost of maintaining such a car is probably crazy.
New Kia Rio - They see me rollin', they laughin'.

Mini one is R2899 per month - no deposit - no residual - they take it back after 4 and a half years(not like you would want to keep it longer than that)
Brand new car - 6 airbags etc
Good deal in my opinion

What car are you currently driving?
1999 Mercedes C class, my dads hand me down.
But when girls ask me its usually like this:

Lol

So you purely upgrading as you can afford it not as car is now costing you too much, nice

Cerato
i20/30 although you don't like hatch
New elantra - not sure price though

1. LOL
2. Even a 1999 C-Class in good condition is way better than a new Koreabox or a Mazda 3. But for the price range you should consider a newer (W203 model) C-class.
3. You want to impress chicks with your car? Really?

Hyundai i20 will be best bang for buck

Or a new Yaris (much better than the existing one) is coming out soon. Could wait for that.

AurisX is R170k discounted.

New Polo 1.4 is also a great buy
