I'm on the concested EDO3 exchange, but I never used to experience this problem until a few months ago.
The dsl line data keeps dropping to zero, and come back up quickly.

Telkom has been to my house, and said they do not see (do not want to see) a problem. The did resets and connection
changes of some sort, without an improvement.

I have written about this in other threads, but I hope someone can look at the graph and go "Oh, there is a pink
elephant between the this and the that, ask telkom to change it for a purple elephant, and it will be fixed."

DSL 10Mb line, synced at 8Mb, with Mweb, have tried account with Afrihost, no improvement.

Hi ttygt

I would say the distance from you to the exchange is too far for 10meg or bad copper. Maybe drop the ADSL to 6meg.
Were the Mweb and Afrihost accounts 10meg?

I have had a 4mb line for ages, with no drops whatsoever, until a few months ago.

When the telkom Tech came, two weeks ago, he told me I could go up to 10mb.

I applied for the upgrade, hoping that it may have an affect on the problem.

I only got the upgraded line and ISPupgrade yesterday, but after a day of testing, there is no improvement.

The 4mb line was tested with 4mb Afrihost account.

Got new modem, new switch, new AP, new filters, different pc's, no change.

All the equipment works well at another dsl location(work)

I had the same issue, telkom came and went, said they would escalate it to the exchange but nothing ever got better until a couple of days ago the line developed some really bad noise. So they came out again and eventually after trying everything to get rid of the noise he found some tangled wires on the pole box and untangled them and that sorted it out. *touch wood*

does this happen throughout the day, or just certain times?

Happens day and night. It is as if there is some interference from an unknown source, or short. The voice line
sounds fine.

Something happened, like a thrown switch, two or three months ago.

It was ok one day, then the next day it wasn't.

Just a thought

This does actually sound plausable... Just thought of something now, how busy is the analogue(voice) part of your line. A faulty pots filter or something I don't really believe in, someone had their ADSL/Analogue cables the wrong way round through the pots filter.

Do you have any power drawing phones connected? Those LED lit cheap phones...

Good Day

Please PM me your contact details and adsl line number in order to investigate your query.

regards

I have the same problem at Off Peak times, and sometimes I don't receive the full capacity of my 4 meg line.

Our filters are connected correctly. We have a set of these Azurite telkom phones connected to the line.

It was really bad. Didn't stay connected for like 2 weeks. Eventually just unplugged the router out of frustration.

At least your line doesn't completely de-synchronize...

That is what is weird.
The modem's lights does not show that there is a break in the connection.
Logging into the modem, I can see that it looses data, but never disconnects.

And it ALWAYS picks up almost immediately.

The frustrating bit is, that any download, that drops to zero, is picked up by the server from which you download.
It either takes its time to connect again, or disconnects your download request after a while.

For instance, Google Play downloads; it can take 10 minutes to download a 2mb app/game, because of the continuous drops to zero data.

I upgraded to 10mb, hoping that maybe the drops would not be to all the way to zero, working around the problem, but it was no use.

I sent a PM to TelkmZA, as requested.

Still no improvement.
I have replaced ALL the copper on my side of the Telkom line, so there is no problem on my side.

It is at a point where adsl is basically unuseable.

The data stream permanently drops to zero every few seconds.

The Telkom rep here did some "investigating", and came back telling me my tottie is to short.
He may have used other words, but I did not understand them either.

Telkom does not even bother to respond IN ANY WAY to the now open for several weeks fault.

Not even a sms telling me the fault code number. I can only see that fault number when trying to log the fault again.

Who the hell in Telkom knows anything about ADSL?
Seriously, is there no one person who has a flipping clue as to how dsl lines work, and is allowed to talk to me?

FFS.
