Hey.

I have been looking to upgrade my CPU for quite a while now. What is really attractive at the moment are the upgrade kits over at evetech. I mostly play games, develop websites, movies, music and a little bit of Photoshop.

I currently have:

i5-3470 @ 3.2 Ghz
DH77EB mobo
8Gb DDR3 1333Mhz Ram

I am struggling to choose between these:

Now the other thing is, is it better to just get a new Ryzen CPU?

And do you guys think the price of Intel's CPU's will be dropping anytime soon?

And what do you guys think i will be able to get for the listed PC parts if i were selling them today?

R8k wii get you Ryzen 7 1700 CPU + B350 MB + 8GB RAM

Wait for the ryzen benchmarks to come out on 2 March.

Anyone buying Intel right now without price cuts being applied is kinda silly, to be honest. If your PC runs at the moment, wait for the retail pricing of Ryzen parts, do the comparison to the Intel chip you were planning on and then buy the Ryzen.

Intel is no longer the clear performance leader...no reason to be giving them more of our hard-earned money for their over-priced chips.

A complete Ryzen setup is currently cheaper than an Intel CPU alone. If brand isn't an issue I'd wait 3 months to see if Intel responds with CPU and MB price reductions.

Why do you want to upgrade your CPU?

Get another 8GB RAM if you really have the upgrade itch. Do you have an SSD?

I do have an SSD. What would another 8 gigs do? When i play BF1 my cpu is the one suffering.

Going to wait for the Ryzen results and see whats what. Thanks Guys.

I wouldn't worry about RAM capacity for gaming, 8 GB should be enough. What is your CPU usage during gaming sessions? What graphics card do you have?

Sounds like it could also be the gfx card. It's hard to tell sometimes whether the bottleneck is the CPU or GPU.

He has not mentioned what gpu he has (would help) but did mention "When i play BF1 my cpu is the one suffering."

Yesterday for the first time I saw my i5-4690 hitting 100% on all 4 cores quite often when I tried out deus ex mankind divided. This was with a gtx 1060. Adjusting two settings sorted the cpu usage out. I suspect in the not so distant future that 4-cores will be the minimum and 6/8 the recommend for AAA games as cpus are beginning to fall behind the gpus.

I have an GTX 960 2gb. Like when i play BF1 my CPU usage is 100%. Also thinking the same for the minimun cores.

Eish, guess I'll need to upgrade my CPU soon then :(

Just did quick google and it seems you are not alone, recommended system requirements calls for an i7 with 16GB RAM.

Fortunately it's not all games, so far I've only encountered this with deus ex but BF1 will do the same if I were to play it.

Still got life left, probably only upgrade in a year or so. Should be able to get a cheap 2nd hand i7 drop in replacement or opt for a new mb/cpu/ram combo.

I'll upgrade mine, and use the i5 as a hand-me-down to the laaitie :o :p

I like the haswell, maybe try get a second hand i7 myself

So what i am seeing is that if you want a CPU for gaming and everyday use i should just get the i7 7700K instead of the R7 1700X?
