This is an old question, but I'd like to know. We have become so reliant on electricity that losing it comes as a shock.

I always go for a walk around the block to see how many people are affected. This one was bad because it was so widespread and the moonlight was poor. People were finding it difficult to walk on the pavements.

We didn't light any candles this time - just made do with torches. We ate early (as a precaution) so that wasn't a problem. We did miss the TV, even if DSTV has been very poor lately. We made do with a talk show (Keino). I managed to find a radio with batteries. It also made me realise how expensive batteries really are. But really, what is there to do?

i can name one thing , but i could get banned for mentioning it

/milano beat me to it - well done :D

I seem to only be on the Brown Stage 2 loadshedding schedule, which has only happened once! Sjoe.

Become more intimately acquainted with the missus.
Start generator and watch "movie"
Repeat from #1

Things to do?

1. Go out and mug people.
2. Burglarise other houses.
3. Sleep.
4. Read with a candle.
5. Talk.
6. Think.
7. Use your charged laptop.
8. Run a generator.
9. Eat.
10. Get drunk.

I dunno :).

Moved to Kazakhstan (temporary). Here is enough power, and when the power goes down, the russian diesel genny has no problems supplying power again within 2 minutes - much more reliable than Eisjkom.

Speaking of crime, it would have been the perfect night. Some graffitti 'artists' were hard at work last night. The police were slow to react, but they were doing patrols with their blue lights on (a new thing ).

Patrols? You sure the cops weren't just lost? :D

I was at a braai, which was completely outdoors anyway, with lots of solar lighting - so the worst was that the music went off. :)

I was chatting to 2 couples over from the UK on holiday here, and saying that CT hasn't had all that many power cuts, compared to Jhb. And then the "big one" hit us a few minutes later. Should've kept my mouth shut.

The drive home was about 25km, and I don't think I saw a single light on or robot working. Got to use my wind up torch. And nothing else to do at home, so hopped into bed with the wife. :D

/me list

1.Ipod
2.Throw glowsticks at my neighbors
3.Run down the street naked
4.Torment neighbors with 2 million candlelight torch
5.Ummm... would get banned if I said it
6.Sleep
7.Complain about Eskom and Neotel
8.Laugh like a evil person :D

My thoughts exactly

So glad I don't live in his 1-horse-town...
