I'm moving houses but the house my moving to is only available on the 1st of Jan and I'm moving out on the 30th of Nov. So for a month I'm staying with friends until my new place becomes available. This leads me to a problem.

Later today I'm going to cancel my telkom account and apply for a new one closer to the time, because telkom messed up my current account so badly, I'm not sure they even know my name. This leads me to problem no. 2

I'm on MWEB all inclusive 1mb uncapped. So if I cancel my telkom line, would they pick up on that? Also would I have to cancel and reapply for my MWEB account too or can I just let it idol until I can update it with my new number? I don't mind paying for that months internet but theres no way I could use it.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes - I would migrate the ADSl portion back to Telkom, then migrate the line to your new premises and downgrade the MWEB package to a capped product for a month or so (if you're allowed to do that).

Would it just be easier to cancel both accounts and then reapply closer to the time? I know MWEB likes to get all anal about account changes and I have to write emails and sign forms and scan them through and such.

I imagine that would actually be easier. I just tried to transfer my Telkom line to my new flat for next year and was told that they cannot guarantee the ADSL portion and that I have to reapply for that once the line was moved o_O. So I will be cancelling both this afternoon.

I just remembered that I have 2 websites hosted with MWEB that are linked to my account. I just I just have to leave both accounts idol for a month.

I've been through this already, it can become a nightmare. Cancel your FULL Mweb account. Ensure that your ADSL line cancellation is correctly submitted by MWEB to Telkom. Sometimes they mess this up, and even though your MWEB account is closed and they stop billing you, the ADSL cancellation doesn't go through or remains pending for an extended period of time.

You won't be able to cancel your Telkom line without cancelling your ADSL line. I went through a similar issue, and eventually just stopped paying Telkom because their internal processes were so messed up, and their different departments are working in different solar systems and can't communicate timeously. They eventually sorted it out on their own after 12 months.

Just be careful. I highly recommend your fully cancel everything, and then reaplly everything again. It's easier to say bye-bye to your old Telkom number, then to deal with a nightmare. Open up the new account in a new name, preferably. Perhaps you wife or partner or whatever.

I know this sounds overly-cautious, but when things go wrong, they REALLY go wrong.

As do I... Hmmm. I think I will just keep the hosting package active and cancel the rest.

Thanks for the extensive advice - As a serial student I have yet to master this process of cancelling and reapplying every single time I move.
