What do we do now?

My wife and I have just bought a place in November last year and no one was staying there for over a year prior to that... How can we "save" when the consumption during this period was practically nothing?:eek:

This bites...

Save power or cough up

Johannesburg - If South Africans don't save electricity by July 1, 2008, they can be penalised by three to five times their regular power tariffs.
According to Nelisiwe Magibane, vice-director general of the department of minerals and energy, the department is finalising legislation that can have a drastic effect on SA's electricity consumers.

She says that the proposed electrical regulatory law that was approved by parliament recently has made provision for the drastic action.

The savings and penalties will be measured against use from September 2006 to October 2007.

Citypower chief Silas Zimu has also intimated that stronger regulations will be put in place for those who do not save energy.

The government can go shoot themselves in the head, and die.

They are toying with us.
They are the wolves, and we are the sheep...

Their VOTERS are the the sheep.

EDIT: oops, left in too much of that rhyme by mistake.

Go prepaid!

How will they fine you if you have a prepaid meter?

You miss the fact that is is EASIER to do it with prepaid.
When you go buy some power, they will do a quick calc, and dispense less units to you as the "fine".

It is on post-paid they have a problem - they will need to ensure they read meters monthly and on the same date to ensure usage is accurate. They can of course argue they take an "average", but I see that as being fraught with difficulties.

...but what if I buy a large amount (eg 6 months worth) of electricity in advance? Or can't you buy that much in advance?
