What do you call that camcorder?

MODS please dont move to Multimedia - this is a general question.


I always see in the movies okes with these small HDD? video cams - what are these called? Hand-held camcorder?

I was at my sons concert the other day and this guy was shooting with on in a school hall - amazing zoom and footage - best of all it fits like a pack of ciggies in his hand.

Can someone give me more info - I am sick of googling and finding nothing.
 
Hard Disk Drive camcorders. Are you sure it's not HD? That means High Definition. So it's probably HD and HDD.
 
My brother got his in Dubai, he bought a SONY HDD HD Handycam, storage is on hard disk rather than DV tapes, quality was damn amazing and it runs in HD resolution!

I have seen these models but it is note exactly what I was referring to.
The camera I saw is squarish about the size of 2 packs of cigarettes with a very high density LCD opening to the left. It was not the sanyo xacti type neither was it the el cheapo rip-offs that you get on ebay.

Damn, I wished I went up to him and asked him the make and model number. I mean this guy was shooting in a dimly lit hall and the footage he was getting (image stabilised) was incredible. I think I was watching him and his camera more than the concert at times :)

@bwana - I wanted to get thefilp one a while back but decided against it. I found that my normal camera (a panasonic jobbie and a sony H3) gave just as good video with a bonus of being one unit (easy SD card expandability 2GB = 35minutes of video). I must admit that my panasonic gives very good video indoors. Make sure you try it out first before you commit - I did and I thought it was all hype.
