What do you pay for DVD rentals?

I'm based in Gardens, Cape Town and am looking for the best selection/price compromise for a DVD contract.

What do you pay for a DVD rental? Do you have different prices for old movies and new releases?

What time do you have to have the DVD back by, next day/ two days later?

I had a contract with Rondebosch Cafe and video a few years back, which was costing me R2,50 per DVD:cool:

What are the prices now?

Edit: Too many filthy Pirates in MyBB. Anyone here even rent DVDs anymore? I know I don't , and am a bit of a pirate too. Just looking at changing my ways...:(

my dvd store charges r24 for a new release, or r40 if you hire 2. i've got a contract for 40 new releases for r500

new releases has to be back the next day before 5pm in the and 2pm on w'ends incl public holidays

there is a special for 5 dvd (not new releases) for r50 which you can keep for 5 days

I gave up renting DVD's after getting home too often and finding they don't play properly. R25 for a single movie at my local store is a ripoff. Now I only watch movies in the cinema on Discovery.

R24 for a new release

then some specials, like take 5 old ones and keep them for 3 days for R60.

Take 2 old ones for R30.

And then daily specials.

Did Rondebosch cafe close down? Even the petrol to drive there would still make it worthwhile at those prices.

a nice dvd store, as they check for scratches on take out and return, so even if its an old disc they play without a missing a beat...

...although i have wondered what happens if you return a scratched disc

When it comes to renting movies, it depends on what kind of trash you want to watch, or if you want quality. Also, are you prepared to walk to and from the video shop, or if you want the movies delivered to your door.

Check out pushplay.co.za

You select the movies you want online, and they are deivered to your house. You return them at a drop-box in your area. It is pricey, but you can't beat the convenience and they have a VAST selection of good stuff. And also the Hollywood garbage.

I am not affiliated to them in any way whatsoever, I used to be a member but stopped because there were no drop-boxes near my house. But if you live in Rondebosch you wouldn't have this problem.

I always buy the R800 contract from Video Den here in Centurion. Huge saving and it lasts me for usally 3-4 months ... hire out about 3-4 movies per week for the kids and the wife.

Damn ... who else uses pushplay? Looks like a really good concept ...

Plazma - how did it work out for you? Convenience wise?
