So i see under services there is now a "iPhone APN" .... why, whats the difference?

I guess that it is one set up specifically for iPhone users to seperate them out from the general riff-raff and probably to make billing them easier, considering that they have a 250MB data allocation.

It might also have something to do with tweaking the APN to more efficient when tlaking to iPhones and maybe something to do with putting infrastrucutre in place for when they eventually launch visual voicemail which is a data driven service.

I suspect at the moment the iphone APN is simply an alias for the internet APN. As Pope24 says it was setup for future services. Similar to Blackberry who have their own APN.

IIRC, v3g mentioned that Apple demanded that Vodafone provides an Apple|iPhone APN throughout the whole of the Vodafone group.

What Apple intends to do with these Apple|iPhone-specific APNs is a mystery, but world domination is unlikely at this point in time.

Yup, at this point it's just the same as the internet apn and you can actually enter 'internet' as your apn and it'll work just as well.

I suspect Apple have some Blackberry-type idea in mind. One day.

V3G , when raoming with the iphone will the APN still register with othet networks ? For eg , if in Australia will it automativally be Vodafone APN ? Or will be seen as internet ?

Thanks

Your APN does not change when you roam. The roaming network pass you straight back to SA and you'll get your normal service here, based on your APN.

If you put a foreign SIM in the phone while in the foreign country, you'll need to use their APN setting.
