What DStv is doing to avoid another big price hike

Growth of 325,000 subscribers in South Africa, a loss of 288,000 customers in Sub-Sahara - tells me nothing.
What I would like to see is the change in packages. How many premium customers are there? How many people downgraded after the last increase?
 
The reality is that they don't need to hike prices. They did massive price hikes twice owing to currency weakness, then never dropped the prices once the rand recovered. Those obscene profits during rand recovery should keep them enjoying the finest champagne for many years to come.
 
Although DStv in South Africa saw growth of 325,000 subscribers in the past year, it was not so prolific elsewhere.

Measured against which metric? I can't believe Dstv has seen a net growth in subscriber numbers. Many people have it for special events like the curry cup, Fifa or RWC but don't have a permanent active suscription.
 
So now the price increase was due to the servere weakening of the rand. What about the year before that? And the year before that? And the year before that? And the year before that? And the year before that? And the year before that?... Though so.

Still no explanation of what they intend to do to cut costs... sell that new fancy building of yours in Randburg perhaps?

As of the end of this month, my DStv subscription is cancelled, DSL and a Netflix subscription costs less anyway. Anyone interested in buying my old Explora? LOL.

Those would be interesting but I realised something the other day. DSTV probably make more money off the cheaper packages as most of those channels are FTA and the rest are advert channels that they make money on.

The premium package is probably a loss leader at the moment which is why they have to keep on upping the price.
 
When I took the plunge to downgrade from the Premium package, I went to the next tier package, which MC then promptly changed to make less attractive and we ended up on "EasyView".

The family almost went on a hunger strike. I "sold" the decision to all of them by saying "we will upgrade whenever there is something that you really want" to watch such as say the "Cape Argus cycle tour" or the SuperSport Rugby season ..

Well, I never got a request to upgrade for anything .... so we have not. And it has been quite a few years.

Now of course, with the changes on SABC, we may find ourselves deciding to dump TV all together, or move up the food chain again ....

DSTV is all or nothing. I would have to think long and hard to find the value that a DSTV premium package would add to my life.

I wouldn't have to think much at all to see the value that their sub premiums would add( hint: nothing).
