What espresso machine to buy?

I have been drinking Nescafe all my life until recently I bought a small mocha pot and some ground coffee. I love it so I have decided to buy an expresso machine. I will be making only 2 cups a day one for me and one for my SO so don't want to spend a lot. Which one do you have?
Also I want one of those coffee grinders which automatically grinds and dispenses the right amount of coffee into the expresso attachment.
 
Moka pots are good enough unless you want to spend like R12k.
 
Stick with the moka pot for a bit but get yourself a burr grinder. That's the most cup-for-buck from where you are now. Meanwhile keep researching machines and start planning how you'll do it. thee is an extensive thread set up by @RedViking on this topic, search the forum for it and join the conversation.
 
if you're drinking expresso, then a nexprexxo is good enough. if you're referring to espresso there's a few options
entry level, Rancilio Silvia with a burr grinder. If you want an all in one / bean to cup. Jura.

Apparently you can make a cup of coffee in your airfryer too, but who cares right

That will only get you something like the Rancilio Silvia.

Then another R6000 for an entry level grinder.

Obviously you can look for some deals and bundles to maybe get it all for R2000 less.

So you looking at 16-18K for machine + grinder.

If you willing to go used equipment you can get it for even less. Just do your homework.


Or you can go for something like the Breville Barista Exrpress which is currently R11 000, but they go on sale for around 80% now and then. Bang for buck.

Or you can look on the used machine market and grab one for R6000.
 
I've been very happy with the Barista Express. One tip is to vacuum out the grinder regularly. Things get stuck there and mess up the grind a bit.

if you want to cheap out, sure, go for it.
you could buy freshly (on the day) roasted single origin microlot imported arabica from a reputable place and actually enjoy the coffee and leave the airfryer alone for a bit.

You could buy a ready made coffee at a local coffee shop and don't make coffee at all. I will most probably make a better cup with my Breville and Airfried beans though....
 
OP you can also check one of @Icemanbrfc 's 100 threads (2 to be exact) on wanting to buy a bean-to-cup. Think he paid R6000 for his machine on the used market.

That's quite a jump. As someone who just recently got an espresso machine I have realised that there are a lot of other things you need to really make it worth while.

Unless you want a bean to cup machine - which may actually suite you quite well. Having an espresso machine without a good grinder and tools can be a bit of a waste.

I had fun with an AeroPress before getting my machine and I still think it makes great coffee... its different to a Mocha pot but both are good.
