ive never understood what the hell this means... in the description for this asus mb it says the following

4 x dual channel DDR3-1600(O.C)/1333

now does that mean it will be unstable if I use 1600 RAM?

sorry Im spamming the forum today... :p

No, you'll only run into trouble if you use a lower spec RAM than the motherboard can support and you try to force the speed over that maximum. 1600MHz-rated RAM will work perfectly.

It means the memory interface needs to be overclocked to support 1600. If they advertised it this way and seeing that it's an ASUS motherboard, it should be stable.

The reason for this is the CPU doesn't officially support that frequency

It is pointless unless your going to overclock.
But who doesnt want to overclock, even just a little :P

erm Im still confused... :)

so should you buy 1600 or 1333 memory for this motherboard?

my understanding is that if you buy 1600 is just going to slow down to 1333 in this mobo. but then you can tighten the timings...

Rather just buy 1333 with tighter timings to start with, then overclock the CPU (not the memory)

correct?

1333mhz (at around 7-7-7-20) is definitely the sweet spot, at least on Phenom II, which is what you're thinking of getting, iirc.

I got a P43 with the same specs. Iam running it at just under 1600Mhz with GSkill ddr3 1866 with tighter timings. Can't get the fsb faster than 1600Mhz.

What is the price difference between the 1333 and the 1600? There wont be any performance difference if the timings are the same and memory speed is different. The 1600 will only be better than the 1333 if you overclock your CPU, at least then you wont be running your memory higher than recommended specs.

If it was me i would get the 1600 for e-peen :D
