its not a full firewall yes. Do you need to block ports and so on? Limit access block ip's?
I have a firewall at home, some corporate firewall, hectic thing. Blocks all that should not be.. Even block pings. Just cant remember the name. Only use it at lan's. Mostly use sp2 firewall.. reason: "well, Once you put up a firewall over adsl, you give hackers and sertain viruses reason to attack your connection! They will ignore you if you dont have one up!"
Oh.. And my router has got a build in firwall. Netgear DG834GT. Love it. Just dont enable DMZ!!! Once dit a test on a fresh install of XP, added my pc to the DMZ and bam in almost 40seconds, pc reboots and its dead. Viruses! That is worst case!
Mostly the standard settings, just added a few to allow for remote and torrents and some other settings. It blocks allota dos requests and stuff like that.. Checking the logs now and then..
I just use the XP firewall on my setup. You could also try ZoneAlarm. I wouldn't be so sure that your firewall is still active if your modem's running in bridge mode so be careful.
Not to hijack the thread, but I just want to clarify something with regards to routesentry.
I play alot of BF2142 lately and the game, like most of you already know, requires a constant connection with the EA Master Server.
Now if I do choose to use routesentry, will the game logon using the intl account to establish a connection with the EA master server, and then continue to use the local account whilst you play ? Or does it still subtract bandwith from the intl account due to the constant connection with the master server ?
