Hi guys,

Last night when i booted up my pc everything was fine. I checked my mails, started playin a bit stalker and suddenly my screen just went black.

No blue screen, no error message, just black. Switched the system off, tried to boot up again but no chance. Pc just beeps.

I googled the beeping code, and it said its my video card. So this morning I ran to my neighbour to borrow his card. It did the same beeps.

Unfortunate I did not have enough time this mornin to swap any other parts, except the card and the ram as I had to rush to the airport for a Business trip.

My question is, can the power supply suddenly decide to be weaker? I think my powers supply does not support the card(s) with enough power.

I have unplugged everything. Took out the cpu, changed the ram around, reseted the board. Nothing helped.

The funny thing was 2 nights ago ati catalyst control center gave me an error message saying, gpu does not have enough power and that clocks will be lowered. It was something like that.

I would appreciate any help for next steps. I'm only home by sunday again, so I can't do any testing at the moment. But maybe one could tell me if its the power supply and not the gpu.

Specs are.
Amd Quad 9950
2gb ocz ram 2x1gb
Msi k9a2 platinum
Sapphire 3870x2
Cooler master 560w psu
3x 320gb sata2
1x 160gb ide
Dvd writer

Thanks guys :)

Maybe there's a problem with your PCI-E slot...
Try putting your card in your mate's machine, then you'll know if that's the problem

That psu seems more than enough. Maybe you just didn't plug the 6pin connectors in?

@charlie_82
I have 4pci e slots. Tried it in all of them. No luck.

@Qwiksilver
my card needs one 8pin plugged in or two 6pins. And yes, off course they have been plugged in :)

I am assuming your mobo has no onboard vga right?

Sounds to me like psu has gone for a ball of shyte :), you said you tested different ram right?

But even if the psu doesn't supply enough power, it shouldn't beep then unless it was giving absolutely no power in which case my gcard would screech at me very loudly and make sure I knew it wasn't plugged in :p Just to check but is the beeping noise it makes? long beeps? or a series of short and long?

it might be the psu, how old is it? coz i know that the psu loses some of it's watts over time (which is normal btw).
BUT you do have one demanding system, I mean, the cpu alone is enough to make the psu quiver... however... I think you should try getting a really cheap, low watt gpu... even if that means you must buy one, and if that works then you would need to buy a new psu (maybe 600watts)

This: Cooler master 560w psu
For this:
Sapphire 3870x2
3x 320gb sata2
1x 160gb ide

?
That could very well be your problem... you're running a lot of stuff there...

I rate PSU - unplug all drives except ur OS drive, including DVD writer etc. Make sure the only things getting power are your gfx card, mobo obviously and ur OS drive. If this works u know its the PSU - if it doesnt, well i reckon its still the PSU :p

Thanks for all replies.

Everything is unplugged. All drives. Just cpu and gpu is connected.

Beeping sound i get is 2quick beeps, then there is a break for about a second then another 8quick beeps. Msi support told me, that the beep combination says its my gpu. Which it can't be, as i had my neighbours card in it, and still same beeps.

Psu is about a year old now.
Mobo has no vga port, and i have tried diff ram.

I can only thinks it is the psu, cause the catalyst control center gave me an error message sayin that my clocks have been lowered as it does not get enough power from the psu.

Will borrow my mates 750w psu for testing on sunday and will keep you updated. But thanks for all the help. Very much appreciated.

Cheers and good night. :)

Hi Guys,

Finally I have sorted out mt problem. After many hours of loosing my nerves not knowing what is the fault.

One of the 6pin connectors was faulty ;-)

Thanks again for all the support.

Cheers
