So I've been a member here for as long as most of you, the eternal optimist that things will change for the better it's only a matter of time..... So what has changed?

1. ADSL is still out of the avarage working man's reach.
2. Telkom still shapes it's traffic.
3. CAPS are still in place and it's as stupid as it was in 2003 when I got my ADSL line.
4. The service from Telkom has become worse
5. We have 3G and HSDPA but it really is a hit and miss affair in my house connectivity and signal is measured in millimeters.... move the device here, there is no signal move the device there, there is no signal.... aaargh give up and try ADSL. Oops I can't I'm capped again for downloading e-mail...
6. What happened to WIMAX?
7. When can I expect a 20mbps ADSL offering with triple play for R250,00 a month like many other countries?
8. How has Telkom managed to hold on to the SAT-3 even after the monopoly on the cable expired?
9. Where is Neotel?
10. Where is the broadband over power guys? (Did they cause the load-shedding?)
11. Poison Ivy is still the champion of nothing.
12. ICASA is a myth.

This all stinks if you ask me and the more things are changing the more they're staying the same.

Yeah, I'm holding onto my 'bit' of faith that when NeoTel comes, things might change DRAMATICALLY.

If not... well, this is South Africa :D We'll just have to SHADDUP and live with it.

Sounds about right. Where did you get that figure of R250 for triple play though? I don't know much about European operators. This is my benchmark in the USA...

http://www.cableone.net/digitalcable/package.asp

or...

http://www.comcast.com/tripleplay/

That's about R700 - R800.00 a month for us.

The French have a 55mbps triple play service for about R 250,00 a month.

Why would you wanna see that link? It would only depress me cause we'll probably get that... well, when my kids have kids :(

Just want to see it in black and white for myself.... to know if things really are that bad! :(

I'm one of the oldest members and I have given up a long time ago.Tired of expecting the next big thing around the corner and then been dissapointed when it doesnt happen. :(

Anywayz moved countries, now I have 24mb uncapped but still keep up2date with SA adsl.

I think a few of us have come to accept that the internet situation in this country will not change while the anc are in power.

I dont believe anything will change with neotel, if/when they offer broadband its just going to be another cash cow 4 them.
Look at all the other "broadband" providers, they have brought nothing to the table over the last few years.

If you stop and think about it, Neotel having access to SAT3 is pretty historical for SA. Doesn't matter if Neotel are the ones who bring about change, the regulatory process of getting someone else into SA to supply internet to the masses gets easier/faster with each company.

It's certainly a step in the right direction and although we're quite far behind the rest of the world, we're moving along slowly.

Ya its a step in the right direction but knowing SA im just waiting for the 2 steps back....

We'll eventually get there. Doesn't particularly matter to me when. I'd like it now but I'll settle for eventually. I'm taking the long view here and being glad that I might have helped bring change about a little.

Well, i'm also just as upset about the poster's points.
On the positive side, one of the cellphone companies will switch on 120 Wimax stations next month, and Neotel now has access to the Sat3 cable, so that's something, i guess.
But of course the 2 main points are Cap and Bandwidth speed, and until the cap is done away with, our situation will not really change much.
