Hi Guys

does anyone have an idea of what the above mentioned is and how to obtain it?

My car needs to go for Police clearance and it seems this is required.

Data Dot is a company that sprays microdots with unique numbers in a space ( or lots of spaces ) on your car. The dots are not visible to the naked eye, and are used for tracking things that have been recovered when the police arrest a thief.

Certificate that there are dots in the car ;) I guess it would only apply if you have data dots in the car then you would need the cert to prove ownership.

Cool thanks so I probably don't need it then as Wesbank also doesn't know anything about it.

Data Dot is only necessary on new cars at the moment - all new cars have had them for the last 18 months or so.

You DO NOT need it for Police Clearance unless it's a car that had it in the first place.

You can have it done if you wish to pay for it - but not essential at this point. It actually ties in with HPI, so it is worth doing in the long run.

So that's what that little data dot sticker on the small window means?

Yes - every single panel on the car has been sprayed, as well as engine block and all ancillaries. Basically if a car ends up in a chop shop, all of the parts can be traced back to the original car.

Hi All

Himesh is the name, i'm part of the Marketing team at DataDot Technology.

Clarity to the question asked, by TheGuy. As of the 1st September 2012, any motor vehicle that requires a police clearance would need to be Microdotted before the vehilce would be cleared.

If you are able to get the clearance prior to the 1st September 2012, then your vehicle would not need to be microdotted.

I've attached a link to our company website, that indicates all the fitment centres, if one requires their vehicle to be microdotted.

My sister's first car (2007 Honda Jazz) had data dot - that was like 5 years ago....

It's only been enforced for the past 18 months on new cars, and only becoming a requirement in police checks after September 1 this year, so I still say that it's too early to come up with any stats.

We bought a new car in January, no datadots?

Then they owe you!

All the makes that I've been involved with have DD or Microdot or whatever you want to call it, supplied prior to delivery to the dealership. (Since early 2011)

The only thing that I can think of, because it has happened to me, is that you bought an old stock unit ~ quite possible.

I delivered a car in March that had been lying is stock for 14 months and it had no dots. The customer wasn't hassled, so we left it, but if you request, I am 99% sure, the dealership must have it done.

I'll ask them.
The car was made in August 2011.

I bought a demo model Alfa about a month ago and the car didn't have Datadot - the salesperson asked whether I wanted it and I said yes. So they sent it away to be done at their cost.
