What is a Sharepoint website ?

I always thought of sharepoint as a tool best use to build intranets ? Seems I was off the mark.

Sharepoint is a tool used to identify companies that made a terrible decision a couple of years ago.

Somebody has no idea what they're doing then.

It's not that. There's just a ridiculous amount of restrictions, file/folder name lengths, characters not allowed, etc etc. Also, wth Windows 7 Enterprise, you cannot redirect your My Documents to point to SharePoint, because a SharePoint site can not be set to be available offline :(

There is a tool.. Forgot the name that does that functionality for free. An official SharePoint one.
Just haven't worked with Document Management stuffs in a while. Will prod if I remember what it is.

Isn't sharepoint also restricted to Windows operating systems ? Can it even run on WINE etc ? Not that anyone would want to make their the website struggle through WINE.

To install it, yes. To use it, you just need a NT account. One of the devs I worked with preferred to use Linux to code for SP2010 :erm:
I hate sharepoint, such a waste of time and money. Our company implemented it and has been nothing but one big headache.
Company who did it, set it up wrong :\. It's not perfect but it isn't that bad...:p
