We already know that Blizzard Entertainment has two non-MMO games currenty under development: StarCraft II and Diablo III, along with a new next-generation massively multiplayer game - possibly a third World of Warcraft expansion.

But is there a fifth game underway? The rumor surfaced last week when Blizzard posted 2 new job opportunities under the 'unannounced' category for two software engineers (#1, #2).

Blizzplanet also has what they claim is a quote from an unnamed Blizzard rep which seems to confirm that they are indeed hiring for an all new game project.

Well, there is no announcement or confirmation to confirm or deny at the moment, so everyone can all but take guesses and throw blind fisty fits in the air. :) And even if they deny it .... coughs, I recall the denying of the existence of Diablo 3 when the diablo3.com domain name was obtained by Blizzard ... and a month and a half later, they announced Diablo 3.

I think I miss read. It's StarWars MMO - Bioware.

But a Starcraft MMO would be the best selling game of all time ;)

Warcraft 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Blizzard has realised that with every expansion for WoW they have been giving a shot of steroids to a dying horse. As soon as the Expansion is launched everyone returns for a month then they are gone again. Numbers have nose dived in WoTLK. People are fed-up with it already (Myself included)

I highly doubt they will ever create another WoW expansion.

However Warcraft4 is not a bad idea. But I would love a different MMO from Blizzard :)

I worship at the altar of Blizzard for a number of reasons.
1) They build games that don't require you to sell your first born to buy them.
2) They release Mac and PC on the same disc.
3) People are still playing Starcraft and Diablo II years after they were released
4) They don't rush product to market
5) They understand the importance of story
6) They listen to and support the community

If the other developers were half as good we would have awesome games all the time.

That said I wouldn't mind a new Blizzard MMO and I don't think that WoW has more than about 18 months left before Blizzard will miss the window for retaining its customer base.

+100

WoW is dying, and I'm sure blizzard is aware of it. Bring World of Starcraft !

Thinking of it Starcraft should be the number one candidate for Blizzard's next MMO . Diablo 3 just do not fit the profile. Look at where WoW started RTS Games and then WoW.

So my guess is also Starcraft , but I doubt that it will even be anounced before Starcraft 2 is on the shelves.

I am also feeling that WoW is dying and therefore I have started playing GW for something else .

In the next year or 2 we will see major MMO's on the Market, I personally cannot wait for the SW:ToR Game and will defnitly give it a bash.

I also feel that the whole Warcraft Phenomina - including RTS versions - are dying a slow and painfull death due to the success and failures of WoW.

If I remember right WoW was announced at the time that Warcraft 3 was released. So we will probably hear what the new MMO will be at that time. At least I hope so.

Very interesting indeed.

Last night I received this e-mail from Blizzard - as I'm sure every one else did too:

Greetings,

We have a short but important announcement that we wanted to share with our players. World of Warcraft is currently an operation of Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. (USA), but starting April 14, 2009, the game operator will be Blizzard Entertainment's central European entity, Blizzard Entertainment S.A.S. (France), and will be referred to as such in the game's Terms of Use going forward. Our European office has been an essential part of our global operations since before the launch of World of Warcraft, and this update better reflects its role within our organization, as well as our continued commitment to our European players.

This is an administrative change -- your World of Warcraft game experience will not be impacted. If for any reason you do not agree to this change you may terminate your account with effect from March 31, 2009 by accessing the cancellation feature in the account management page at https://www.wow-europe.com/account/. Note that your continued use of the World of Warcraft service indicates that you agree to the change.

We're looking forward to continuing to enhance your World of Warcraft gaming experience in the year ahead, and as always, we wish you happy continued adventures in Azeroth!

The World of Warcraft Team

So they're shifting WoW to the France branch ... dedicating their US staff to the new games perhaps?

I think this is only the EU WoW. I am not even sure why the hell they bothered to tell us about this.

Must be some weird financial regulation.

Never underestimate the buying power of hordes upon hordes of arrrrtards.
At the very worst WoW will lose the current minority 'hardcore' base. I expect Blizzard to keep releasing new ezmode content and expansions to keep al lthe moms and pops happy, but like Nintendo, they really just don't give a crap about the hardcore - that's not where the money is. At least not in MMO's.

I doubt the mysterious fifth cylo...er... game, will be another Starcraft IP. They're going to be busy enough with the RTs and it's expansions, and I doubt it will be a third mmo so Starcraft Universe is probably not likely, considering they've mentioned that the new next-gen MMO will be a completely new IP. Unless they're lying through their teeth.

Personally, I could care less about any MMO related news, I'm itching for more Starcraft and more Diablo. I'm hoping the fifth title is a new IP and a new platform. I'd like to see them do a cinematic FPS. They could give Valve a run for their money.
