What is CellC launching tomorrow?

Serious - what part of Fourways? Telkom and a number of FTTH providers are crawling all over Fourways at the moment. I guess if it is new development (i.e. along Dainfern Ridge) you will probably be out of luck, but the "older" part of Fourways/Broadacres/Pineslopes has good ADSL penetration.

Whatever CellC is going to announce as a "big surprise" will be something luke-warm. Like their not-so-epic #epic promotion.

Exactly. #epic wasn't that epic. I won some airtime twice, but that's that... If it's another competition like #epic where you can win prizes, then I'm in :D

Lonehill. Right at the end of Sunset Ave just off William Nicol. I can walk to Pineslopes :p and Montecasino...

What makes matters worse is Vodacom is the only company I've seen to do a survey/promotion at all the complexes around my area for fibre and I don't think they hit their sign up target to justify installation. They would have been a bit expensive anyway. Even worse still is outside modifications to units are not allowed even if you own the place, so that means wireless dishes like BitCo are also out of the question.

I think Beverley are being targeted by a FTTH provider but that is a loooong way off and just outside my border next to Lonehill.

This area is full of "new" and old complexes so I expect there are many people with the same problem. Summercon are the developers where I stay and are probably partly to blame. So if anyone else is in a newish Summercon property/complex I would be interested to know if you have Telkom infrastructure.

The ad says something unique to SA. Telkm 8TA halved their prices to R899 for uncapped. They wouldn't continue with the campaign if they intended to do the same.

Then again Telkom's offering is throttled to 2Mbps. It they offer no throttle the ad might be a dig at Telkom taking away consumers choice. R899 at LTE speed uncapped is attractive offering.
Them offering the same price at faster speed will make Telkom look pretty stupid.

Where is this 8ta uncapped deal?

Jan is there. Any minute there should be a press release check under newsroom

I'll sit here and be happy with the red network that works.

Depends where you live...

This. Just last week I ported away from the red network that doesnt work in my home, in Pretoria.
Curious about this, but that link sounds a bit fake. I don't think any ceo will publicly state "we are gonna smack X-rival company..." or some such.

True, I did wonder about that.

Also, We've been with them for 23/4 years. We still get edge on the first floor of the house, upper floor we get 3G though.

Seems in JHB, Vodacom works well, But Durban and CPT they are pretty terrible.

I'd rather they fix their data network in PE. None of this matters until then.

So it's real then?

Couple questions.
What happens to the handset linked to the rival contract that is being bought out. I get to keep it?
I just ported one of my MSISDNs to Cell C. I have another contract with VC on another number for my tablet. Can I take an epic contract on my Cell C sim now (phone) and cancel the VC contract (tablet)? What happens to the canceled number? Ported, I assume, or lost, or scenario not possible most likely.

Must agree on the irony statements in the comments
So, in order to get out of a contract, one needs only take out a contract? Sure, now pull the other one...
Try the drawing board again, seems you failed it last time.
"So many South Africans are feeling trapped in long-term contracts by their providers ...." oh the irony of it all!

Now the 10K is EPIC  - I was actually hoping that CellC would stop spamming me with life-insurance/retirement/funeral-policy SMS - now that would be truly EPIC!

but charging any percentage of the remaining contract subscription as a termination fee is ludicrous.”

Does this mean I can cancel my contract with cellc right now and only pay the outstanding device amount?

If thats the case this is epic.
