So want to cancel my other account with mtn.

Phoned 3 times now and they keep saying they'll mail me the invoice with cancel fee included ect but i never receive it.

So any idea what this fee will be?

the monthly cost of your contract multiplied by remaining months of contract.

Illegal according to CPA. You cannot penalize a person the same amount as if they stayed in the contract. They can charge the amortized handset value though.

I cancelled in December (my termination date was April this year) here is what retentions emailed me (btw, you can't phone them, you have to mail them)

Expiry date: 2016-04-11
Handset insurance replacement value R 9,786.82, divide by 24 months then multiply by the number of remaining months on the contract (4 remaining month)
Samsung Galaxy S5 = R 1,631.14 (Handset Charge) +
R 562.99 (unbilled invoice) +
R 501.63 (current balance/ outstanding balance)
Estimated Total=R 2,695.76
Payment should be made to the below account, prior to the cancellation of the contract.
Absa Bank
Account number: 4063304150
Branch code: 632005
Branch: Sandton
Reference Number: xxx

help me here

why is there a handset charge?

is it a once off for the 4 months left?

Lube up and bite the pillow cuz MTN is cumming in dry.

The cost of the handset divided by 24, multiplied by the remaining 4 months. This is fair to me, they need to recoup handset cost over 24 months, not until you decide to cancel contract. Make sense??

Good luck. Let me know if you get the quote. I have been waiting a week with numerous emails and a hellopeter and Facebook post, still nothing.

You are being shown the price because the handset is basically amortised over the term of the contract. While they can't charge you airtime for the cancelled period, since you will keep the phone, they are charging you the balance of it's value.

so i need to pay them 1286 as show in the yellow square to cancel my contract at full?

They confirmed that is the exact amount

i'm just confused cause i cant seem to work out how they got that amount

Insurance value of phone divided by total contract term and multiplied by remaining term. This amount is then added to your current unbilled amount plus the amount outstanding from previous statement to next billing.
