What is the best for 384K users

I hope Gary is right about the line upgrades. I know my line is capable of stable 4mb as I used to have a 4mb line with telkom about a year ago and didn't have problems,so if my 384 connection is upgraded to 1mb that would be awesome!

You can get a lot more than 50 gig on a 384 line.

Max is about 100gig.

I think that if they upgrade the 384 lines they are either going to up the price of uncapped or make some kind of acceptable usage policy, for me if they capped it at about 60gig's then I would still pay R500

I have Cybersmart uncapped but I don't push it to the max, I have used about 20 gigs and its only halfway through the month, in theory you can do about 3 gig a day. I'll probably up my usage when all the series start again.

I'm not aware of any uncapped offering that does not cap you somehow :). The fact that uncapped offerings goes along with a SPEED right behind it, means just that : You are capped.

In other words, if you're on DigiChilli's 512 kbps uncapped offering, and Telkom upgrade your line to 1 Mbit/s, DC don't need to do -anything-. They don't need to raise prices or institute a "fair use" cap, why? Because 512 kbps is already the cap....

I'd say you're only truly uncapped if you're on an uncapped offering that allows -faster- than your line. DC's offering of 256kbps when you got a 384kpbs line is not uncapped, you literally lose 30% of your line's capacity...If you do the calc, DCs 256kbps offering really is an 80GB capped service with a pretty slow speed :).

Technically, it would be better to have a 40GB cap that "upgrades" with your line speed...

Anyhow to get back on topic, the more i'm on my uncapped service, the more i don't see what the whole hoo-hah is about uncapped.

For a 384 kbps line, the best option (for me) would be one that gives you enough GBs using your full line capacity and the ability to "top up" when the need arise. The "top up" pricing must be such that it must be comparible to an uncapped offering on your specific speed.

Simple example:
I would go for something like this:

5GB "default" package, lets include some admin/special overheads at say R100 p/month (that's R20 p/GB)

Then i want to top up at R10 p/GB , which implies , for R500 a month , i can get 45GB . (Afrihost already hinted at the R15 p/GB, so i'm not just dreaming here)

So at R500 a month, i'm "capped" at 45GB , but i can use at the max speed my line allows, i'm not throttled to some artificial cap.

That advantage is? If i don't feel like downloading one month, i only pay R100 and i only pay for what i use [effectively].

In the long run it will be CHEAPER to have such a setup than an "uncapped 384" service at R400-R500 a month, of which i don't

a] Get full capacity of my line
b] Don't necissarily use the "full" amount of GBs potentially available for the pricing.

That's why I'm not bothering with slow uncapped. I'd prefer to get less content faster.

Is there anybody here that use Axxess express with a 384k line.
If so, how much are you able to download in a month ?

A 384k line on any good uncapped ISP you account average 70gb, max at 90gb if you download 24/7.
(On SAOL at the moment was on Axxess before):D
