What is the best software to use for creating a template

Hi there

I need to create a template with preset formatting, layout - text boxes, image boxes, etc for the user to edit.

When the user selects the text box control...they will need to paste relevant info in the text box (eg - Product name). The same for "Part / Model number",etc

The user must also be able to click on "image box controls" in order to select (browse) for the appropriate image on their pc

Once their "product sheet" is complete,there must be a button to export the document to .PDF

what would be the best way of achieving this?

Wow, that sounds very complicated!

I suggest you contact a professional programmer.
 
I have done this about 10 year ago ( without the "convert to pdf"-part)

google "ms-word form fields". You have to install some printer driver to convert to PDF.

google "openoffice form fields". You can click "Convert Directly to PDF"

This will get you started.
 
Thank you so much for all the replies. To answer... It would need to be a desktop app preferably, not web app.

I can do a similar thing in MS Word, but its not exactly what im looking for... I will give Powerpoint a try as suggested, and will also google "form fields" , thank you

I have got it to "work" in Ms Access, but its not very user friendly - not sure on a few things. What software do other companies use for this kind of thing? Or is it usually just done by designing one product sheet at a time in CorelDraw / PHotoshop?

any further advise would be greatly appreciated.

I think people use MS Access with a Database backend.
They use an SQL or Database programmer to design the form and to link it to the various database fields.
It's a very complex process for a novice, I dunno what experience you have, but if it was me I would have to call in a Database programmer.

Access is actually very simple to use, does not take you long to get the hang of it even for a non-programmer type person.

I've tried it. I'm a moron when it comes to these things. It's as friendly as a swift boot kick to the head.

I had to create a database when I just started working and I'm no programmer. My one mate is in the construction industry and knows very little about computers and such yet he created a database for the company that was deployed company wide. I initially helped him but he soon got the hang of it and carried on by himself.

Creating the Database is easy... creating the form for the data entry and linking each field is not so easy. :p
